What are you saving for in the short-term?

Right now, our goals are three-fold:

1. Recover from the financial hit of paying taxes. ugh.
2. Save for the fence/retaining wall being built at the cabin.
3. Save for another family vacation. I would love for us to go on a Disney cruise or something along those lines.

Saving for the kitchen remodel, demo is set to start in August! Yay!

Monthly we put money in vacation, auto and gift funds. Other then our June trip to Canada with DH for a conference I'm hopeful our next trip will be Disneyland.

I have been saving my random consignment/selling baby gear money - I'm using the money for DH's residency grad present and now possibly for a new stroller.

We don't have any long term savings right now.

We're saving so DH can start shopping to replace the 1993 Camry sedan. I think we have enough to get him a nice 1-2yo Rav4 or Forester right now if we dip into the e-fund, or in a couple months if we keep that "emergency" money untouched.

Otherwise it's business as usual. The retirement fund grows steadily, the college funds in fits and spurts, etc.

Right now we are saving for a new dual hvac system for the house and for O's school tuition.

For the short-term? Nothing.

Just doing our usual on everything else with regular savings, college, car, retirement. *knocking on wood that no big nasty expenses crop up*

hahahahaha - really, I'm just trying to keep my head above water and hope that in 3 months that my financial outlook is slightly less dire. But, I have been doing things around the house - small upgrades that I hope improve resale value in the event that everything goes sideways. (Can you tell I am not feeling optimistic right now?)

Short term:

- a "new" (probably certified pre-owned) car for DH, the 1997 Camry he's been driving is on its last legs ...

- vacations

- house renovation (5-10 years down the line)

Long term:

The usual: college for 3 kiddos, retirement

Short term: paying off all debt other than our mortgage...just a little more to go 😄, funding the rest of DS#1's medical mission trip to Paraguay this summer (people are donating but we will cover whatever he doesn't raise), our family vacation this summer, a car (used and safe!) for DS #2...he will get his license in December, a trip for our 25th anniversary (summer 2015).

Long term: retirement, college (we max out the 529 each year, but mostly we just pay it a year at a time), and paying down our mortgage.

Knee-jerk sarcasm aside, we haven't gotten anywhere near where I thought we'd be by this point, Kris. We have freely put our *four*kids in private school (minus 50% tuition remission) but it's a frustrating topic for me. We haven't been able to do a vacation this year because we did more sensible things like adequate disability insurance and life insurance savings (minuscule, laughable in the big picture).

My biggest goal this summer is to garden the 8 foot city-wide plot between our crowded houses. It gets the most sun and they completely neglect it. I'm going to offer them a share in the cornicopia and want to gravel it with 4 raised beds.

Long term we'd like a large house in the Adirondack mountains (ski/lake) for our adult kids' families, holidays, weekends, etc.

However, DH is talking about Seattle again. In my heart-of-hearts I'd move back there before I could even blink at the question. We'd lose money, move to a higher cost of living and take a pay cut rendering "savings" to a fictional concept. I would hike in the Cascades for free therapy.

The cost of moving to fellowship in 2015 and potentially paying a mortgage + rent if we can't sell our house before we move.
Also, baby gear like a new crib and double stroller.
