It happens a lot with one of my cards. It essentially won't work for many internet purchases - plane tickets, clothing purchases etc. Also with travel. Locks up after one or two purchases. Leads me to not use it much. Pretty annoying actually.

Chase actually did this to me when Ifirst moved here. I went to Sears and made a big charge for an appliance then went to a department store and spent like $200 and then went to a flooring store to pay for my order...guess what? Denied. Part of the reason they stated is because there were large purchases made within the hour...a big difference in my normal spending pattern. Which that is another thread...kind of scary that there is something keeping up with what I buy and how I buy it. It is soooo 1984.
Finally - we are finished with training! Hello real world!!

We typically notify our credit card companies when going on vacation. However, when DH started traveling a ton for work, he called Marriott Visa (I think it's a Chase) and told them his travel patterns. Now, it will be flagged if he deviates from those patterns (and it was when we went to Arizona, as that's not a place he frequents, and we didn't stay at a Marriott). It actually works really well.

We also uploaded a picture of the chip next to a dime in case the Budget decided to tell them it was bigger than it was. Easy peasy.
It was even easier than that with our US Bank Visa. We parked our rented SUV on a residential street and some asshole sideswiped it and took the whole side view mirror off. We just called US Bank and explained and they took care of it.

Usually it gets declined, then we get a text about how they suspect fraudulent activity. It's beyond annoying.
The worst is that they are only protecting themselves, not you. Your maximum liability for a fraudulent charge is $50.

I don't think we've had our card declined for years. I'm not sure if we ever notify the card company when we leave town.

We had our CC reissued FOUR TIMES in the last year due to possible fraudulent charges. PITA!!!! Especially since we run everything, I mea EVERYTHING, through the CC for points. This means that everything from the drycleaner to Microsoft Xbox has bounced on us in the past year. Yeah, we look super classy getting declined for $4 in shirts.

I tell you what, not that we should ever judge, but if you see someone's CC getting declined, it really could have nothing to do with them. My husband travels a lot, so I'm not sure if this contributes, but the CC companies have to get better about this. Super frustrating. They cajoled everyone into online bill pay and then "whoops, We might have let a few Russian Gangstas peak at your numbers. We'll just cancel those numbers and send you a new one" GAH! I want those hours of my life back.

              THIS!!! It's pissing me off.

The charge "in question" was admittedly weird -it's an independent massage practitioner that has one of those phone swiped things and it shows up as a paypal charge. BUT this is the FIFTH time I've gone to them. Same day of the week, same amount of money each time. Why was the fifth charge something worth freezing our account for.

I don't know, maybe we should just switch. We love usaa for everything else, but I've not been super pleased with their Amex.

Exactly. So our card was reissued a few times this year: after the target thing, and then once I thought I lost it - and found it right after I hung up (typical). So I wonder if the fact that it was reissued twice in a year means there is some kind of extra flag on our account?

But I totally agree that it sucks big time to have your card reissued with respect to all those automatic payments. We also totally forgot about the EZ-Pass connected and were just driving around like it still worked. Oops!

Omg. They apparently just did it AGAIN. Our gym just called and said they couldn't charge our card. WTF!?!?!?!? Literally like once a month. This is beyond annoying.

And we just got a FIFTH replacement CC. Effing ridiculous. I'm about done with auto payments. I am like the deadbeat client at the drycleaners for amounts of less than $10/month. GAH!

I'm pretty over them too... But I'm not sure I really want to deal with a bunch of paper bills either. I'm sure on the fifth replacement though it would be easier just to sit down and pay bills once a week.

I just don't get it. They can't freeze the card every single time something comes up. It's absurd.

We've had Chase and Wells Fargo, and neither have put our cc on hold for fraudulent charges. Now, they will "hold" transaction that are concerning and will call us to make sure they are not fraudulent. Wells Fargo did reissue a card one time because there was a fraudulent charge clearly not by us, and they caught the pending activity, and without prompting by us reissued the card.

Even the President's cc gets denied.

The only time we've had fraudulent charges on our credit card, I was the one who caught it. I was so annoyed that Capital One didn't catch it sooner. The perpetrator even initiated a payment (like $4,000+ if I recall correctly) to our credit card from our checking account. We didn't even owe that much on it. It scared the crap out of me. We had to close our checking account and credit card. Such a big fiasco. We have never had our card denied due to suspected fraud. The inner workings of credit card companies are mysterious.
