Do the physician loans affect this score?

  • #2
I know that it shows on the credit report and I'm sure it would affect the score if a loan wasn't paid or was paid late. I'm not sure how just having the loans affects the scores, though.

As far as I understand, the only way the loans affect you negatively when you're buying a home is 1. if you're not paying regularly and 2. if they have come out of deferment. Before they come out of deferment they don't really count against you as debt....do they?

If the student loan is in deferment it is a non-issue, it will show up but not be counted in your borrowing ability. If it is in a repayment status, then it will count against your borrowing ability. The only negative that would produce is what was mentioned before, if there was no payment made AND it was in repayment status- or a complete default(which opens a whole other can-o-worms).
