  • Financial death update...

Sun Trust will not lend us any money. We are too high risk because of the high student loan debt and the fact that we have consumer debt. If we wanted the money to buy a car and we had no consumer debt, then it wouldn't be a problem, but since we want the money to pay of debt, it is because they think we will just rack up the credit card bills again.

Home refinance did not work. Poor option. They want the to raise or interest through the roof in really, really bad loan terms. Wouldn't help us at all.

Dh's program director told dh flat out that there is nothing he or we can do. They only are allowed one moonlighting opportunity. Period. It will not change. That cannot start until 3rd year. VA policy as well as his.

Furnace is working. For now. It just started working. No magical fix. We borrowed a ladder, but our roof is too pitched to get on without sliding down and breaking our necks. How do people get on roofs like that anyway? I don't know if the furncace will continue to work now that the water in the exhaust pipe has evaporated or if more rain will bring another shut off. The part we need is literally less than $20. Paying someone else to get on our roof costs $500. I don't know what to do here.

Transmission seems to be working in the car. I don't know what is wrong with it. We thought it wasn't shifting into overdrive, but I think it is. I thought the transmission was the problem because we have a tiny leak in it. I put some transmission fluid with a seal swell agent to hopefully prevent anymore leaking. The car is just loud for some reason. Tires are fairly new. I don't know the problem. It gets louder the faster we go. You can't hear it in idle. It's just a whir sound, like the engine is really loud. I can't explain this crap.

I am just hoping, hoping, hoping that we win the lottery without buying a ticket or we can hang on until 3rd year when dh can make some more money moonlighting.

      first and foremost,

Second, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the federal government just raised the rate of credit card minimum payments from 2 to 4%:

Thanks congress. Because God knows, Citibank is a powerful contributor and there's an election next year...

Oh holy crap. When does this take effect exactly? Is it already in effect? How can they do that? You go along paying what you can and they double your payments "to help you?" That just freaking sucks. I can't even....talk.

BTW, your house was very cute in my dream
Thanks Annie. My house is pretty cute. It was very sweet of you to leave the $10 in my mailbox, but I'm afraid that isn't going to cut it. :>

I'm going to have to start selling organs, whoring myself out, or have a meth lab. Kidding.

It is really so sweet that you are worried about me. We'll be okay. Really. There are a lot of people in way worse situations than us, and we will get through this. Sometimes it just feels desperate.

I am so glad that the furnace is on again. It totally sucks to be without things - but heat is a necessity for goodness sakes. Is there anyway you could call a handyman service - not a HVAC company - to see what he/she would charge you to climb up on the roof and replace that part? Things are pretty slow for them this time of the year, so maybe he would cut you a good deal . . .just a thought.

              Hang in there.

And screw Congress. I think all the bastages (including the Senate and the Commander in Chief) ought to run out of town. There is no doubt that we live in the greatest country, but our system has gotten totally out of control and needs a major overhaul.
That's an idea. I honestly don't know how anyone could get on my roof. It's like a 60 degree pitch and 20' high in the front. In the back where the exhaust pipe is, it's about 35' high and pitched and about 6' from the edge of the roof. I am not very inclined about such matters though.

Yes, screw congress. I could say some really, really profane things right here (been watching a little too much South Park), but I will refrain.

Im glad that some things are working out for you. Dh heard the other day thru the grapevine something interesting. Bank of America does not factor in your studen loan debt. Take this with a grain of salt....but maybe something to check into. Keep plugging along....you're in my thoughts.
Yeah, we've talked to Bank of America. That's who we have our mortgage with to begin with. Can't help us.

                  Thanks, though!

I'm convinced that the reason that the Secret Service moved Denis Hastert from my neighborhood is that they know that I'm a crazy person when it comes to the policies of this administration. (and I'm including all of them dems and the GOP) (except Hillary because, well, I love Hillary in unhealthy ways)

My friend whose husband works for Hastert says that I am not personally responsible for the movement of the Speaker of the House, but I'll take credit for it. Although we no longer get once an hour Capitol Police drive-bys. That was kinda cool.

But I digress. I actually am enjoying paying my credit card bills because everyone I send means that I'm that much closer to paying them off. If my husband would stop using them, I'd be even more thrilled.

                      Heidi,

You probably already ARE paying these higher payments since compliance starts next month. I'm sorry for being the habringer of bad news. I have such a winning way, no?

I'm glad to hear the furnace is working for now. All of the rest just sucks, I hope something comes through for you, it sounds like you've exhausted about every avenue I can think of. Hang in there!

See, problem is, I don't think I am. I multiplied my balance by .04 and got about double what I am paying. So? Screwed? Yes.

Compliance starts next month? I needed to know. Thanks for telling me. I'm still going to throw a fit though. Full on full-scale temper tantrum.

Call the credit card people and see if they'll reduce the interest and also explain that you will continue to pay absolutely the most that you can but that may not be their minimums.

I hate the credit card people. All of them.

Re the furnace. Mine kept going on and off at our old house (furn was c. 1969). Turned out to be the belt. If it was running too much it would shut down.

Also, if its an old furnace it might have a little door by the burner that is supposed to be held open a tiny bit. All it took was a little pc of bent wire to keep it open. Unfortunately, the person who told me this was a hvac guy and I can't be sure if it would work on yours.
