O.K. What do you spend money on that you know that you shouldn't?

I like nice kids' clothes. I carry a purse that I received as a free gift with purchase, but there is something about seeing such cute kids dressed nicely that sends me over the edge.

I also troll around travelocity and disney vacation websites way too often for my own good. Part of me wants to take the tax refund and be irresponsible.

What about you? What is hard for you to resist?

Travel. And not luxury, wonderful destination travel but get at least 60 miles away travel. When I had some good consulting gigs going, we usually had extra to go somewhere. So, I would be packing and looking in the closet cursing my clothing choices -- and realized I prefer travel to clothing. But if there is some leftover....

Clothing on sale. Good quality stuff I couldn't afford otherwise on sale (or consigment stuff for the kids). The thrill of a bargain. Especially for the kids -- oh, and shoes for them! After finding a Baby Lulu dress at a consignment store, I'm hooked!

Yuppie Food- cheeses, wines, fancy crackers, lobsters, wine, beer, etc. I have forbidden myself from going into Whole Foods until I dump this remaining 15 pounds. AND I started ordering my groceries online so that I only buy the stuff I need, not the stuff I see and think, "mmmmm, just this once."

I am a slave to a good goat cheese, a fab glass of wine, a slab of italian bread...

I have imposed a similar weight restriction on such items.

But when we both get past it, can I come over? I'll bring the wine.

Just about anything I can rationalize. Or, I can rationalize just about anything.

Purses -- absolutely. I am a whore for a nice bag.
Frames -- I'm a nut about framed photos
Books -- I'm awful about returning them to the library, so I generally buy them.

Bargains. I am terrible about finding a once in a lifetime deal that we could really benefit from but dont NEED or just a good deal period. I can list about thirty examples if anyone is interested.

sue anne...I'm interested. List away. I would say I'm pretty much in the same boat as you in terms of my expenses...any bargain is what I'm after....I can't tell you how many things I've bought because they're such a 'great deal' and then we haven't really ended up needing/using them.

The things that I end up spending too much of our income on?

Clothing (For me! Yes, I am a true clothes-horse )

GOOD Take-Out (for all those nights I don't want to cook and my husband isn't getting home until 7 or 8 )

Shoes (I am swiftly becoming Imelda Marcos as well )

Books (I never seem to get to the library by myself so I always seem to order the books I want to read :nono: sigh)

I'm a make up junkie! I wear mostly the same colors....I do branch out when I buy new stuff....but I could NEVER use all the make up I have. But I compulsively buy something new at least monthly.

Russ is the biggest deal junkie. If he can get it fo more than half off....he'll buy it...regardless of what it is sometimes! Often stuff goes unused. But the stuff that we need that he gets really cheap....I love it!

hmm.....as I sit here in my nine year old sweatshirt filled with holes and drive my beater car that needs new tires, DW will spend on kids clothes. I somehow can't bring myself to use any money for me, if we are going to over-indulge, spend it on the kids is my motto. Of course, DW has been nominated for the show 'What not to wear' from her co-workers more than once because she hasn't bought any new clothes for herself in years, literally.

But mostly if there is going to be spending going on, it will be on the boys.

Furniture. Seriously, we keep buying it, and I don't know why. We really must stop, our house is too small and we can't afford it!
DVD's for the kids--this is dh's problem, not mine! He can't resist buying them any new DVD that comes ou t.
Clothes for the kids--again, this is dh. I'm cheap, but he really enjoys taking them to Gap, Gymboree, and Seargent Major and going nuts.
Eating out--I like to blame dh but it's my fault. He comes home at 6 or 6:30 and I don't even have any meat defrosted. I'm working on this one.
Clothes for me--I love to shop, I'm a cheapskate, but I still spend too much on clothes. Pregnancy has curbed this, luckily, since I'm over buying maternity clothes.

I really can't think of anything!!! We try to stay afloat with all of the tuition around here. In the past I would say Victoria's Secret!!!!! My scrubs & jeans may be old but I like to have nice underwear underneath.

Matt, I think we must have the same car. On that note what is everyone driving?

Heh, a little over a year ago we splurged and bought our 1999 Subaru Legacy Outback. I think it just rolled over 70K.

The other car (DH's, I can't drive stick) is a 1989 Toyota Camry wagon. I dunno how many miles, 160K? More?
