Eating out way to often......but we are working on that this year. (My daughter recently listed "Eating in Restaurants" as her family's hobby in a first grade memory book. Oh, the shame. )

Magazines, books, newspapers. I'm a sucker for anything in print. Or online for that matter. I will pay for info. Anytime. It's a sickness. I do go to the library, but honestly I don't enjoy the reading as much when it isn't *mine*. How weird is that??

DH buys more home remodeling stuff than we need. We could stock a small lumberyard out of our basement.

        My two most recent splurge/deals:

2 pairs of used Seven for all Mankind maternity jeans for $65 including shipping ( retail would be about $400)

GE monogram stainless industrial fridge on scratch and dent for $800- retail $4900
Kitchenaid double oven, stainless, used but less that two years old for $475- retail $3000- these will go in our house which we are attempting to remodel

I am physically unable to purchase anything unless it is on clearance. It drives my DH nuts. I always say that someday we will be able to afford to buy not on sale, but even when I was working FT before he was in med school I wouldnt do it.

That's a good deal on those jeans! Even better if you can fit into them during pregnancy.

              Oh, the car...

Since poor Nigel is alas no longer with me...

We have Otto the Auto, the 2003 BMW M3 that my husband loves more than me and slightly less than Nikolai.

Coffee...Generally Starbucks....Eating out.....my daughter and her clothes (I buy her new stuff way before I buy myself stuff--I have some of the same clothes from 10 years ago--yikes) and now that I am in California...TRADER JOE'S!!! (Now I know what all the fuss was about!) and Whole Foods, which I loved in Chicago and am happy to be near once again...the only thing that keeps me from there is lack of parking!

We drive a 2003 Passat Wagon that's a lease--I have no idea what the miles are...this car is with DH now. I have the 1991 BMW with >200,000 miles on it It was shipped for a good reason, but since it's DH's money pit-"project", it damn well better run for a LONG time!!!!

How *did* the car thing start anyway?

We have a Honda Odyssey minivan (2000) and a "cr**y 1991 Toyota Camry" (our affectionate name ). We are saving up to replace the Camry when it dies. We keep going back an forth between sporty and classic convertible. Nothing practical has entered our minds. Yet.

I tend to fritter away money on stuff for the kids or on magazines. I don't buy books because I read really fast and the time spent entertained by the book vs. the $ spent on said book always seems wasteful to me. The thought of finding a place to put all of the books I want to read is daunting, too! I haunt the library, though! Eating out has been a big one for us until recently, since I have been dieting. It is still a huge weakness, though! My oldest now pretty much needs to eat an adult meal, and my middle son prefers soup or salad to a kiddie meal (whatever!) so even going out to a fast food place is getting pretty expensive for us these days.

I drive a 2000 Suburban with 122,000 miles on it, and DH drives a '94 Olds '88 with 127,000 miles on it. We cringe when we think of replacing either of them because we aren't in a place yet where we can pay cash for a new (late model used.....we don't buy new) car, but we can't squeeze a payment into our budget right now, either, unless I sell an organ! We are hoping both cars last a couple more years. DH would love to have a Toyota Avalon as his next car, but realistically, he will probably get an older Toyota or Honda compact car. I love, love, love my Suburban, but the gas prices and the longer distances I drive now to run kids here and there have been a concern.....we aren't making the long drives that we used to when we lived in TX, so I am unsure that we "need" a Suburban any more. We'll see what happens in a couple of years.

Dh and I have talking about buying a Honda Odyssey later this year. Please tell me more about it! What do you like/not like about it? When you were shopping for cars what made you ultimately decided on the Odyssey? Thanks in advance.

BTW . . . we have a 1997 Honda Civic with 90,000+ miles on it. It's a great car, but a little too small for our growing family. Dh drives a 1996 Ford Explorer with 107,000 miles on it. It's an okay car and gets Dh to where he needs to be, but we probably won't buy another Explorer again after this one craps out (and it will very soon . . . . hopefully, not until Dh finishes residency though. *fingers crossed*).
