    It's all a state-by-state case. Some states have caps on malpractice awards, some don't. Some require both spouses to be listed on the mortgage/house ownership, some don't. Since you'll be renting for now, you still have time to figure out what you want to do. Forming a trust and/or incorporating is also a good option in any case.

    There should be lots of info on this on the web (which state has what practices). I'm assuming that once you buy real estate you won't be moving around as much.
