Since several of us have ordered stuff on Allheart.com for the Dawkter's- does anyone else have any cost saving tips for the medical professional?

We buy almost 100% of his books on either Amazon's used book section or through half.com. He has found the occasional thing on eBay but they're usually outdated.

He bought the Birk plastic clogs on eBay and an otoscope which was a huge deal- saved a couple hundred bucks.

    Anyone else?

When we talk to our parents, we drop a lot of hints that we have to buy something expensive. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't...... Most of the time it doesn't....

We also use Amazon.com for books. I push **big time** to get the reimburements from the program for things like epocrates and pricey books.

Shoes have been an issue. Dh hasn't found reasonably priced shoes that work well for him yet. We'll take suggestions.

Biggest savings tip is ... buy little to nothing

We have made it very clear to all relatives that we would like memberships for presents. It is so set in everyone's mind now that the only question we get asked is 'which place' or 'which class' to pay for.

I know that people have mixed feelings about this, but drug companies/reps are a source for textbooks and paying for various things.

DH has been working on educational grants to get fuding for things like books, dermatoscopes, conferences.

This year is the first that we will be reimbursed *fingers crossed* for the conference last weekend. The residents here are financially responsible for in-state conferences. And in-state does not mean within commuting distance. And they are required to attend the conferences that are held during peak season at top resorts. But, this year we should get $200 and that will cover lodging and gas.

He usually shops around for textbooks and amazon tends to have good prices. I'm not sure if he has tried half.com.
