Do you typically buy trip insurance? Is it worth it?

I buy it for overseas trips but not generally for 'regular' travel. I bought it for both trips to Russia and the trip to Italy. I don't know if it was my status or the insurance but when Hurricane Isabel cancelled our flight out of DC, Expedia was able to get us out via Philly w/ no problem.

I think one of our credit cards offers trip insurance (huh, I guess I should know that). For bigger overseas trips, yes, otherwise no.

The people who do that trip insurance are one of my clients. You can learn more about them at http://www.worldaccess.com. I think it's a pretty good idea. I've been in a situation where I should have had it and lost a cruise vacation with my mom when she got GBS.

Remember that insurance check we received for my car? Well, against all ideals of financial restraint, we are taking a trip to Disney this winter. Yes, you read that right. We have absolutely NO BUSINESS doing this and yet we're doing it anyway.

I did purchased trip insurance because of the kids. Last winter, they went from one sickness to the next within the span of a few days. I would hate for a flu bug or broken bone to ruin the trip with no financial recourse.

          Anyhoo...

Hey we will be in Disney end of Oct- any chance for a meet up? Our CC has trip insurance, we called to verify before our recent expedition and it was pretty comprehensive, so we didnt buy any additional.

We got it for some trips and luckily never had to use it. The few times we got travel insurance it was under $200 and I thought was worth it to have a peace of mind.

yes always. I've already got good value out of it this year. It cost 45 euro for the year and it covered all my medical expenses when I got sick when over visiting SO last time and took a trip to the ER.

When I lost my wedding ring in Mexico on the honeymoon it covered most of the cost of a replacement. It was a good thing too since it was first like :argue: then I was like :! then we read the insurance brochure and we were like :|

The only time I ever bought it was when we went to Africa. We were forced to buy it actually... our travel agent would not let us travel without additional insurance. We could choose our carrier.

Unless I am travelling to the third world, I don't buy it. I have basic trip insurance on my CC but that's it. I mainly had health and life for Africa bc our basic insurance policy (we have national healthcare since we live in Europe) did not extend to Africa.
