  • Shows that should have ended by now, and ones that ended too soon

and shows that never should have died an early death!

    Too long:

House: Cuddy's leaving next season and it is STILL going to continue. I was a HUGE fan in the first couple seasons but now its just the same thing over and over and over.

The Office: Personally, I thought Pam & Jim getting together might have been a nice stopping point, but I thought Michael leaving would definitely end it. Guess not.

    Not long enough:

    Arrested Development: No explanation needed

Ugly Betty: I was a big Daniel/Betty fan. Four seasons was pretty good, though.

Flash Forward: Only because it has the worst possible ending in the history of television.

    What's your take?

Shows that ended too early IMO:

    Freaks & Geeks
Arrested Development-DH STILL mourns this show to this day!
King of Queens- Doug & Carrie remind me sooo much of DH & I!
Six Feet Under-Although it was really one the most memorable series finales I can think of. I remember shedding a couple tears, it was done beautifully.

Shows that should've ended sooner or shouldn't continue:
    90210
Desperate Housewives-I finally gave it up this year.
    The Real World
    Married w/ Children
The Simpsons- DH just reminded me that this is STILL on. WTH?
Who Wants to be a Millionaire
Price is Right-Should've ended with Bob Barker
    Wheel of Fortune
    Just about any soap opera

I've had this conversation with people many times, and we all agreed that there are some shows that just should have a timeline. Maybe they should be only a certain amount of years so that the writers can really write out awesome story lines and then end it with out having to make crazy stories just to keep it going. Shows like Law and order are OK to not have a timeline, because there are always new headlines to rip off, but shows that have a specific plot line about a specific idea or character need to have an ending. Like, I LOVE, How I Met Your Mother, but there needs to be an eventual ending so that he DOES meet the mother. I mean, how many women is the guy going to fall deeply madly in love with?

Nobody's mentioned FIREFLY yet?! *shaking head*

The brits seem to have way more shows that get this just right. Coupling? The Office (original UK version)? As Time Goes By? Doc Martin? All perfectly judged. Very well-written, weren't cut short, didn't drag on too long. I know there are many more I'm just not thinking of at the moment, too.

If tapatalk hadn't glitched out on me this morning... That is all I was coming on to write.

Shows that should have never ever been cancelled (or at least given more than one season):

          FIREFLY!!!!!!!

          Shows that should:
          House
          Private Practice
          Reality TV
          Soaps
          Wife to PGY4 & Mother of 3.

I would've liked to see more of Pushing Daisies. Ugly Betty could have gone longer but had a pretty good run I thought. DH tends to like those elaborate, confusing shows that get cancelled right away without explaining everything - Jericho was one, and he's expecting The Event to be next.

DH gave up on House a couple seasons ago, I gave up on Desperate Housewives a long time ago, and I know The Good Wife is still pretty new, but we both got bored with that REALLY fast.

                Ended too early
10 Things I Hate About You (found on Netflix, then let down because it just stops)
                Firefly
                King of Queens

                Need to end
                Two and a Half Men
Desperate Housewives (stopped watching after two years)
                Grey's Anatomy (same as DH)
How I Met Your Mother (love it, but he needs to find his wife)
                I'm sure there are more.
                Veronica
Mother of two ballerinas and one wild boy

DH and I really dislike Grey's Anatomy and are bummed it got renewed for next season. It's seriously the stupidest show on television. DH is always pointing out how unrealistic it is.

I love Private Practice because of the psychology component and the fact that they discuss interesting ethical dilemmas.

I think they've done an okay job of keeping it interesting, but the season finale this year SUCKED.

I HATE Private Practice--it suffers from "Gossip Girl Syndrome"--everyone has slept with every other character on the show at some point. STDs, much?

Two and a Half Men also needs to go. Who the heck watches that show?!?

I also love HIMYM, but it's getting a bit...old. When does he finally meet this woman?!?

I think Dexter has reallllllly gone downhill in recent seasons. I loved it in the beginning, but it's getting bad.

                        Reality shows must die.

I know there's a million shows out there that make me cringe when I see commercials for them...but I seem to have blocked them from memory.

I really miss Six Feet Under (although it was wrapped up so well, I wasn't quite as sad as I was when F&G ended to abruptly), Friday Night Lights (already!), and Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip (I thought it really had potential, but had some idiotic plotlines that made parts unbearable).

American Idol, Survivor ... those can/should go away forEVER. Bacholorette/Bachelor -- awful. The only "reality" shows I like are ones that require actual skill (yes, AI requires skill, but the judges always made it impossible for me to watch it at all). I love Project Runway, Top Chef, Top Chef Masters ... that kind of stuff. Truth be told, Project Runway has gone down in quality big time. I followed last season solely by reading blogs.

Pushing Daisies was FANTASTIC and was a casualty of the writers strike. I miss the quality of the West Wing, but that overstayed it's welcome as well. Aaron Sorkin needs another show. I tried to love Studio 60 just out of loyalty to him, but it never really clicked.

We got a few episodes of Stargate SG-1 from Netflix, but...it's so formulaic. I can't believe it went on for what, 7 seasons? And then all the spin-offs?! OMG.

We also own Firefly on Blu-ray. WANT MOARRRRR.

Quantum Leap also had an unfortunate and ambiguous end. They needed just a couple more episodes to get it right.

That 70s Show overstayed its welcome. And I cannot believe that they are attempting to continue Two and a Half Men. Its always been horrible.
