Sadly, I can't even read the graphic novels it was based on though. During the show I can squint my eyes and look through my fingers at the gory/scary parts, but the comics are just too intense and unavoidable.
We have four episodes left of season 3. We don't have cable so we'll be buying the episodes on amazon. I love it, but can hardly bear watching sometimes. We have a lot of discussions after each show, ie what would you do in that situation.
SD, I started reading the first book but decided I didn't want to upset or confuse myself. Did you guys hear they're creating a new series with different characters that's not based on the books? Can't wait!!
DH makes me watch it. It has grown on me a lot though. I'm sure we will watch the new season. We have watched on Netflix and iTunes... is it on Amazon Prime? DH also has his "ways" of getting shows...

1) What is the virus? Is it something that Patrick caught from eating the deer? Is it communicable from livestock (e.g. Violet dying?) Or, was Patrick somehow infected by "the zombie virus" and didn't tell anyone?
(If it's from the water or the livestock, my vote is leptospirosis).
2) Is there a connection between the virus that killed Patrick and that zombie with the bugged-out eyes (on the fence) that Rick looked at?
3) Bob Stookey - PTSD/recovering alcoholic/planted "survivor" by the Governor to infiltrate the prison? No one survives out in the wilderness alone for long periods of time.
4) Rick said he would "lose it" if he lost Carl, Judith, or the prison: based on the poster for season 4, I'm going to say he's losing the prison, and inevitably, "it".
(P.S. Didn't he already "lose it" last season with all the hallucinations?)
5) How did Herschel get that prosthetic leg?
6) Why is Tyreese with Karen on the side? That's just dumb.

1) I think it is from the deer. There were just too many signs that pointed to that (him mentioning the deer to Daryl, sick violet, the remnants of the deer carcass that Rick came across just before finding the sick and dying boar.) Remember that everyone is "infected" with the zombie virus so that when they die they will turn, it doesn't matter how they die (so even if they haven't been bitten.)
2) Seems likely since zombie patrick's eyes looked all weird, and I think I saw another bloody-eye zombie in the trailer for next week.
3) Could be...
4) I think that was the whole point of the "there's no coming back" - Rick did come back, but just barely, and he's saying he couldn't do it again. Herschel says even then he'd be ok, but I guess we'll see...
What I meant earlier was, has the zombie virus somehow mutated, so you don't need a wound or bite to actually "come down with the fever"?
Patrick didn't have any kind of secondary infection that we know of, nor was he injured in any way. The scary part is, he died within a day: asympyomatic, then dead, in 24 hours.
If so, this means that people, wounded or not, are now a threat. Total anarchy in the prison group... Yikes.
Important note: Patrick ate the deer, and then openly coughed into the water cistern system. So, the illness had to be airborne and spread in droplets (sneeze, cough) -- superflu?
We don't know that anyone gets sick from the water (but I had the same thought when he was hunched over the barrel)
I really hope it is something other than the zombie virus (kind of like a reminder that even though there is an apocalypse to deal with, there's also parasites or bacteria or whatever this is)
