  • Shows you watch with your people...

I'm curious if you watch any tv shows with your spouse or kids or friends or whatever.

Me: I watch Good Wife and some other lawyer type shows with my dh. I just started Suits which I like but dh was scandalized by the language. Haha!

I watch amazing race with my youngest two.

I watch Revenge and Mindy Project with my college freshman.

And I don't really have a show to watch with my middle schoolers but if I ever watch the bachelor ds13 usually likes to offer commentary while he's on his computer playing mine craft. He's very sarcastic and has almost my exact sense of humor so it's fun to "watch" that idiotic show with him. Especially when jimmy kimmel was on there.

Suggestions for shows to watch with middle schoolers? Obviously if I let ds13 listen in on Bachelor I'm not extremely picky. I thought that my Disney obsessed dd13 would like once upon a time, and I feel like I should watch the walking dead but haven't quite forced myself. My cuz is an actor in that series, though. Maybe ds13 would be into that? I don't know. It's sort of like mine craft.

I watch tv every night usually for about 45 min while I fold laundry or do bills... Don't like to watch the news when the kids are up at all.

We have had a lot of luck watching reality competitions as a family. Right now, it's Face-Off, the special effects makeup show. Lots of creative costumes and monster designs. Snarky judges. Fake drama when they think their mold may break or something. No scandalous language.

We also watched a lot of Top Chef. That lead to our family sarcastic catch phrase "nobody ices their doshi at this level of competition". after we all lost it laughing when a judge said this in complete horror one episode. Because what the hell is a doshi? And my GOD, they iced it?? Fools. Now we say that to one another when we want to tell someone they are taking life a little seriously.

    Anyway, that's our family bag.

DH and I are rocking through the Americans. If you thought Suits was scandalous, no way would that work for you two!

We all watch different shows. Le sigh. I bet I could get Alexia into Once Upon a Time. Ryan just finished Walking Dead. Chad and I both watch Orange is the New Black and The Goldbergs. We love the Goldbergs. I have lots of shows! Mostly Chad watches sports if anything. Ryan plays xbox. Lexi watches nerdy YouTube channels and TED talks. I watch trash and lots of shows on ABC.

We used to watch a lot more together but now I"ve sort of gone on without him for some of the peripheral shows we started out watching together - Shameless, House of Cards, Veep. He'll circle back and watch them at some point throughout the year, mostly after they've finished, but it also gives me an excuse to re-watch them, which I do like to do sometimes. The shows I wait for him to watch are Homeland and True Detective and Breaking Bad when it was on. Those are ours together and we don't watch without the other. I started out watching OITNB without him but he kept overhearing the second season (we'd watched the first together) and finally was like "can you wait for me to watch those?" so we devoured them over our post-Step 1 vacation last year.

DrK and I rarely agree on TV or movies. He likes those corny cop shows from the '70s, most of which I've never heard of. Right now, he's on a "240 Robert" binge. I cannot get past the first 10 minutes of any of these. He'll also watch COPS and documentaries about airplanes. Action movies. I just don't get it.

I'm watching Downton Abbey and Who Do You Think You Are (which would be cool to watch with your tweens/teens). I'll pretty much watch anything on PBS.

The very few things we can watch together are CBS Sunday Morning (when the kids let us), Cold Case (which went off the air in 2010 but is in re-runs) or Undercover Boss (also good to watch with your tweens/teens). But mostly, we DVR stuff and never find time to watch any of it.

It varies during the time of year, and how much time we have, but at the moment DH and I watch Big Bang Theory, Scorpion, Criminal minds, and Bones together (or separately depending on the week).

DH and I save The Amazing Race and Top Chef to watch together, and we're slowly going through House of Cards. A lot of our other "together shows" were either cancelled or we lost interest - The Newsroom, Glee, Nashville (which DH never liked much).

DH's default "background noise" is reruns of Law and Order: SVU. Mine is HGTV. DS is apparently an egomaniac - the only thing he likes watching is videos of himself.

We've watched Doctor Who, Sherlock, Castle, Big Bang Theory, Simpsons, Dirty Jobs...and I know I'm forgetting some. When those aren't on, we pick something to catch up on on netflix. We got through all of Poirot this winter (70 episodes, and some are two hours!), and then season 1 of Broadchurch (we're waiting for season 2 to all be on our DVR before watching it; do NOT want to have to wait a week to see what happens next on that one!), and now Leverage, which is mostly just silly. British mysteries are a favorite; we've seen all of Inspector Lewis, and I think all of Inspector Morse (or at least what's on Netflix?), and Midsommer Murders, Endeavor, Foyle's War, Wallander, Campion, Bletchley Circle, Cadfael, etc., etc.). I'm currently binging on Scrubs, and DH will watch it and laugh at it, but prefers other stuff if we're sitting down to watch together since he gets enough hospital at work. My default background noise is documentaries; DVR catches nova and nature, and there are tons on netflix, too. I like feeling like I'm maybe learning something. DH's default background noise is pandora.

This is us, too! We watch The Walking Dead and Game of Thrones regularly when they're on. We watch Modern Family sometimes, but we're not caught up, and we usually watch The Daily Show.

It seems like we do better binge watching shows than trying to keep up as they're released.

DH and I have a lot too, but they're all spread out throughout the year so never all of them at once. We anxiously await new episodes of Doctor Who, Sherlock, Game of Thrones, Homeland, and Luther, and while we're waiting for those we fit in some Orange is the New Black, The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Agents of SHIELD, Broadchurch, and occasionally House of Cards, though we're not caught up on that one. In the past we've gone through all of Battlestar Galactica, Torchwood, and Fringe (NERDS!!!).

When I lived back in MN, my BFF and I would watch Grey's Anatomy and Private Practice while drinking copious amounts of wine (on a work night!) and making fun of the characters and their problems. And we watched a lot of Buffy and BSG together too.

Word! DH and I do not have time to watch TV. We have started watching a movie on weekend nights but that is it...and I am usually on the computer while doing so and he is on the bike trainer. LOL.

However, nothing beats the bloodshot/bags under your eyes when we are on vacay and have time to binge watch.
Finally - we are finished with training! Hello real world!!

My husband and I just finished watching Breaking Bad - because our "thing" has been waiting to watch series until they are completely over and then watching the entire thing in a huge marathon over the course of a month or so often years after the series has ended. Because that's how uncool we roll. I love Jesse. And, Todd definitely had to die the way he did.

I did the same thing with Dr. Who - taking it all the way from the re-boot to Mr. Eyebrows. Matt Smith is my doctor. Fezzes are definitely cool - as are bow ties. I sobbed like a baby when he died.
