  • Photoshop classes/resources

Until there's a photography sub forum (hint, hint - I'll even mod)...

Anyone have any suggestions as to resources or online classes for Photoshop? I'd specifically be interested in portrait editing workflow. I have "CS5 for Photographers" and it's a great resource, but a behemoth of a book. I'd love to know how portrait photographers go from an image SOOC to their finished product.

I've heard Clickn Moms is good. I took classes at a local community college, taught by a friends dad, actually! It was a lot of fun but I've forgotten so much.

Have you checked out Lightroom? I find it more useful for many things than photoshop

Once I finish up with the Masters' programs, I plan to spend a little time learning this. DH is a pro, but his teaching style is just not my learning style and it is not a fun activity to do together. Once I get a better baseline knowledge, he'll be a great resource for "hey - is there a way I can do this?" Ultimately, I want to make digital scrapbooks as my creative outlet. Creativity has been painfully missing from my life in the last few years.

LOL, this does come up every so often; I'd be glad to help mod too if you need backup

Like ST, I took a few classes at a local college (the adult learning, evening type classes that last 6 or 8 weeks) and still refer to those notes every now and then. I can't think of a good reference for start to finish workflow examples (step 1, 2, 3, etc), but you might be interested in this book http://www.amazon.com/Skin-Complete-...skin+photoshop . I have the first edition of that book and while it, at over 350 pages, is also rather beastly, it's organized well so I can usually quickly find the section I'm looking for when I'm in the middle of editing. It doesn't have much advice regarding a full workflow, but there are chapters on color management and calibration, getting accurate skin tones, retouching, preparing for print, etc, that might help with certain steps of your workflow.

Oh also meant to say Lightroom and Aperture are awesome for speeding up your workflow. I use Aperture to cull through all my images, star my favorites, then adjust basics like exposure, fill, and hue/saturation. Then if they need some more attention they go into photoshop.
