  • What's everyone shooting this summer?

    What's everyone been up to photography-wise this summer? With nicer weather and kids out of school, are you getting your camera out more or less now than you have been previously?

    This summer has been filled with concerts and festivals for me so that's what I've been shooting mostly. That means a lot of night time and low light shooting which is proving quite the challenge. It's really difficult to get my camera to focus when there's not much available light. I've been practicing more but I don't seem to be getting much better at it, lol. I've tried using manual focusing but that's REALLY hard, I don't know how people ever took photos before auto focusing.

    I don't think I've gotten out my good camera this month! All my pictures lately have been from my phone. I have my cousin's wedding shower tomorrow and her wedding next weekend, so I'll be taking pictures there. She has a photographer, but I thought if I end up with some good shots, I might buy a photobook groupon and send her a book of them.

      My 50mm 1.8 went soft. I need a new one. I want the 1.4 but can't justify the price right now. Grrrr.

      It's my go to lens for kid pics. I haven't been taking much lately. No time and too hot.

          I'm buying a gently used macro tonight!!!! I cannot wait to put it on.

          I've been shooting the kids a lot since they are home. Pool, berry picking, hiking, river walking, etc. I've been pushing my framing lately. Less expected. I love underwater photography but I haven't invested in camera housing yet. I'm also a little self conscious at the country club taking my camera underwater. Weirdo.

          I'm taking a fine art photography online class right now. Its' been great, although I'm not full pariticpation ($$$) and just studying and posting along with other study-alongs. The learning material has been dense. Since I'm self taught I haven't spent dedicated time stuyding lines, movement, depth, etc. The still lifes have really pushed me out of my comfort zone. It's easy to grab a viewer with a faces, emotions, interactions, dreamy landscapes, etc. It's hard to grab someone visually and emotionally with light and lines.

          Some of my faves from this summer:

            I'm so sad to say I haven't taken many pictures this summer. We are headed to Hot Springs, AR soon and I hope to get some really good ones outdoors on the lake.

              @Ladybug: you take beautiful pictures!!!

              I'm a huge fan of food photography and managed to take a few this summer of the dishes that I made. I won't be able to take any fun summer/vacation pictures until February though :/ Gotta save up those vacation days!

                crabby_patty those look delicious!! I'm a sucker for some good food porn

                Ladybug those pics are beautiful! How are you liking your macro? I have the 100mm macro and it's lots of fun to play with! It opens up an entirely new, teeny tiny little world.

                Thanks!

                My seller backed out of the macro. She was dumping it for a great price for financial needs. I guess she came to her senses. I'm itching to buy it...

                      We haven't taken much outside, but we've been taking TONS of pictures of E. Mostly still learning and trying to improve quality with the various settings. We do have some trips coming up, so I'm hoping to bring the camera and take some better pictures on those.

                      We use our 50mm 1.8 probably 90% of the time. I love it!
