It's so hard to decide what to submit for my final assignment! I took pictures of at least one object each day in at least three different settings...

Here's my set so far: https://www.flickr.com/photos/alliso...57645876157473

        Are they just critiquing exposure?

I think you have a lot a good exposures. I think you'll get more bang for your critique if you submit one of E. They will probably go more into comp, perspective, directional light, etc. with her. I think No. 4 (on porch/blanket) and no. 12 (outside blanket) are your best exposures of her. Great work!!! Let us know what you decide and what they say

We had to submit at least one with a human, so I submitted the set with hubby and E, and the ones with Sophie the giraffe. I also included the monkey ones, just for kicks. I got feedback from one instructor so far and it was mostly positive, although not as helpful as I would have liked. Mostly she said that I chose challenging lighting situations (that was kind of the point) and gave me some tips for fixing those, and she said that the ones with Sophie and the monkey were consistent. Still waiting to hear back from the other two.

              Next week is aperture!

Ap is my fave! I'm a sucker for bokeh. What is your widest ap on your lens?

My 35 goes to f/2, my 50 goes to f/1.8. I normally shoot around f/4 because I'm usually close to E and she's out of focus otherwise, but I want to be able to open up more!

First practice set, SOOC, using the 35mm. Nothing spectacular, but I at least hit the goal of 3 different aperture settings while maintaining good exposure.

I need to find more places to practice, and some better models. E is far too squirmy on her own.

I did like this one though:

Do you have any finished knitted pieces? They provide lots of challenge to photograph well.

I do, although not anything I've finished lately. I miss knitting time! I tried shooting some yarn the other day, but I had it in weird light, and it was a pain. That's a good idea though - I'll pull some of it out and see what I can do.

Not quite as wide a range as the assignment called for, but good practice in closing down and maintaining exposure anyway. From the widest to the middle I was able to just change SS to get exposure, but for the narrowest I had to increase my ISO, or my SS was going to be too slow and would likely lose focus without a tripod. And for this I absolutely prefer the wide open aperture.

So, I hate all of my narrow aperture shots! I practiced wide open on my 35mm f/2.0 today with E, and I love them! The lighting on the last one isn't as good, because I opened up the curtains a bit to get more light for the narrow shots, but I had to keep it for the expression.

Whoa! Love your wide open shots of E! They are all beautiful. I think I like the focus and details of her fingers in the second best. It's an unexpected focus and subject. Very cool!
