Our school band has been using shutterfly groups. Seems really easy for me as an invited member of the group. Multiple people have uploaded shots and it's private.

I'm part of some groups on Flickr and it seems pretty user friendly to me. You just upload all the pics to your account and choose which ones you want to add to the group.
