FairQueen, here are some examples. I'm 5'3" and used to be slender a few years back, so I completely understand your concerns. When shopping for pants, try to find a style that already comes in petite, it'll save you money on alterations and the proportions will be a better fit. When layering, mix color and texture for a more modern look. Navy looks great with bright yellow and grey will look brighter with hot pink. Also since you're petite, you can also get away with some horizontal stripes (they'll make your boobs look bigger).

    from Target:

3/4 sleeves give any cardigan a modern twist.
This will be great for a dinner out with hubby.

    From Old Navy:

    From Gap:
These are regular khakis, but you'd never be able to tell because of their deep chocolate color. This style also comes in cords, which is another great casual alternative to jeans/khakis.

Thanks, cute stuff! So I can wear those long shorts even with my tree stumps? What shoes?

Well fitting bermuda shorts look good on all heights. Just make sure they hit just above the knee. I would suggest wedges or espadrilles to give some height.

I have tree stumps too, and I think it's ok to wear shorts if they hit above the knee. Stay away from capris though.

Since my quadricep/hamstring region is only *slightly* smaller than Eric Heiden's and Dan Jansen's thights, perhaps we should have some advice on dealing with this area.

I went to Victoria's Secret last night to pick up a little something/something for my honey, and I felt like asking the girl if that balconette bra comes with a matching girdle. I think that I've aged out of Vicki's target audience.

Kelly, since DH doesn't usually deal with below the waist, which body part(s) are you referring to?

Kelly, a friend here plays a lot of soccer and she has huge quads. Another friend calls her "quadzilla". She has a hard time wearing slimmer style pants because of it.

thighs. quads are the front, hammies are the back.

I have a hard time fitting into ski boots.
I told you I was squat. In my defense, it's muscle.

I haven't read this whole thread but I am going to jump in here and advise against Bermuda shorts unless you are a skinny mini. I don't think they look good on anyone!

Stella, I really think it depends on the width, the ones that narrow toward the knee actually have a slimming effect. But yes, stay far away from the traditional wide-leg Bermudas.

The best way to hide thighs is skirts/dresses and wideleg pants.

Let the Fashionistas agree to disagree!!!

I have bigger legs than top and I would never ever wear them.

However, A-line skirts, wide leg pants and bootlegs are my best friends.

You two have me curious. After I lose another 10 pounds, I'll go try some on. I would think that it wouldn't be flattering on me but now I'm wondering. Wide leg pants and bootleg cut works well for me too.

Nellie, it really depends on what you're comfortable in. If you feel self-concious about your thighs/legs, then just skip Bermudas. Luckily as women we have tons of other options.

Yeah, you rarely hear a guy complaining about how a suit makes him look fat!
