  • Coming out of the closet...

Just for fun, I thought it would be fun to talk about some of our ...um...fashion low points.

    In the past:

-I used to have serious mall bangs back in the day.

-My prom dress was one of those enormous Gunne sac kinds.

-I wore mom jeans until my Mom made me throw them out two years ago.

-I used to wear tiny cut off jeans and t-shirts every day in college (I went to school in KY y'all).

    Currently:

-I regularly wear yoga pants, mom style track suits, and knit shorts. And I have at least five pair of shorts that come to my knee, with one being an Army cargo style.

-I own one pair of Birkenstocks which I rarely wear anymore because they don't offer enough arch support.

-I wear a sun visor and glasses everywhere in the summer.

-I'm in a complete fashion rut at work: dark pants and a fine gauge knit turtleneck. This outfit is warm and washable while mildly professional.

In sum, I guess this all points to the fact that I should never live on either coast for fear of being ostracized.

In my dreams I run with the Kenyans.

I am with you Kelly.....although I don't own the Birks, I own a pair of Danskos, and Mephistos. I am finally giving in to getting another pair of sandles to help relieve my pair of leather Born flip flops that I wear every day during the summer.

Here are my list of violations I am sure-

    Back in the day-

    - leggings with a huge long shirt/sweater
    - stirrup pants
    - Giant bangs
    - prom dress with a giant bow
    -

    Currently
    - plain colored t-shirts
    - jeans- I even have a pair of non-maternity jean capris. :run:
    - yoga pants when I am at home
    - I own two pairs of low heels, and I will never be caught dead trying to chase after my kids in them, I tried and about broke my ankle. (5 pairs of shoes total in my wardrobe)
    - I wear my hair up in a pony tail more times than I wear it down during a week
    - I do wear make-up on occasion- but it is Loreal Bare Minerale- my make-up takes 2 minutes to do in the morning
    - I don't do my nails, and hate having artificial nails- had them pre-kids and can't imagine having them now- I keep my nails sport length now, and it grosses me out thinking about what gets underneath them.
    - I admit I am a cheap shopper, and think that shopping at Ann Taylor or the Loft is really expensive. I feel like I am really splurging if I buy something at J.Crew. If it is less than $15 sign me up baby. Oh and I buy new clothes about every 3 or 4 years.

I did buy some "fashionable" tops that were on clearance from Pea in the Pod ($15 each), and after looking at the tag, doubt I will be wearing them much because they are dry clean only. So another low point- I usually won't buy something that is dry clean only because I don't want to get spit up, or other kid juices on it.

I had a rat tail. Bleached blonde of course. and the sides of my head were shaved and the top was gelled to within an inch of it's life to stand up through the nuclear holocaust.

I didn't go to prom (went to Melonball Shooter night at a punk club in DC instead)

I had dresses and shirts with shoulder pads so thick I could have played either hockey or football.

My first wedding dress was a less foofy version of the princess diana wedding gown, with the Big Ass Bow. ( you know the Big Ass Bow that makes you look like you have a Big ASS?)

currently? Well at this exact moment I'm wearing running shorts, a long sleeve t, a baseball hat and my running shoes. because I just came back from walking/running with my dog.

I have my birks of many colors. But I must say that I keep my feet pedicured and lotioned all summer long because I get skeeved out when I see people's heels that are all cracked and icky. Seriously, it makes me nauseous.

I have a few pairs of yoga pants, I have some non-mom jeans, I have lots of dressy pants that I do wear with kitten heels or wedges to work- sometimes. (my office is freezing so I'm more likely to wear closed-toe shoes)

I have two suits- one wintery, one summery.

If you want true AWESOME arch support get the Helen by Mephistos. I have extremely high arches, and it makes getting shoes that truely fit a real challenge. These are SO comfy and are cute. I never paid so much for a shoe, expect for my $80 New Balance w/$40 insoles put in, and it was worth every penny.

It comes in a lots of colors, and different strap materials for differant looks.

          Lows:

I looked at some old pics of me, and I wore white socks with black shoes, alot apparently

I wore a lot of loose large button up shirts after DS and I had quite a bit of weight to pull off, looking at past pics I think it made me look worse

I realize that I wore to light of a concealer and saw under my eyes was lighter than the rest of my skin in pics - someone could have told me..

I wore my hair up way to much

I wore a LOT of sweatshirts in the winter, this winter I thew all away put one, boy that was painful...

          Current Lows:

the worst is my pants were tailored, and sigh I got them back at home, tried on shoes, and they are a tad to short.... I just can't win. I don't have the heart or time to go back to get them fixed again. So next fall I'm gonna have to take them all out myself and do them again. :banghead:

I still wear my Simple clogs I bought 7 years ago... I LOVE them, they are a quick way out the door, and I am to cheap to shell out another $60 for a new pair. I mean I got them on sale for $10, can't beat that huh, sigh they do look really worn though...

Those are the worst of them, I think

Hey! Not all of these are bad!
Plain fitted t-shirts are great and I own a ton of them.
Jeans are great. Just not jean capris. I wear jeans all the time and if you can find a pair of "good butt jeans" buy 5 pair!
Yoga pants at home are fine. I have a lot of "lounge pants" that I wear at home when I just want to relax.
Ponytails *can* be really cute. Try wearing it high one day and at the nape the next to change it up a little bit.
Lastly, you don't have to spend a million bucks to look like a million bucks. I think J. Crew is expensive too. You just have to get really good at bargain-hunting.

Regarding my own fashion faux paus:

*I have a sweatshirt I have owned for over ten years from my high school cheerleading days. It is stained, ripped, and a size too big but I can't throw it away. It is the most comfortable thing I own and I wear it every day - at home.
*That's all. I'm pretty good most of the time. :>

Oh, I have more then you could ever imagine!

I can't think of my old ones - I've probably blocked them out. Though i did have the high hair in high school.

Today (Keep in mind I have to dress business casual for work-no jeans):
                - I have two or three pairs of pants that are too short (i.e. you can see my entire shoe)
                - I wear pants that I know are too small (tight) because I have SUCH a hard time buying pants that fit I hate shopping for them.
                - Business casual to me really means any pants that aren't jeans and a top that isn't to risque.
                - I haven't had my hair cut in who knows how many months b/c I never know what to do with it.
                - yoga pants or windpants when I'm home with sweatshirts that are too big
                - I have like ten pairs of black dress shoes but one two pair of brown.

I'm sure there are many more - my sister got the fashion sense in the family and I've told her that when DH is done with training she and I are going on a new wardrobe trip.
Wife to NSG out of training, mom to 2, 10 & 8, and a beagle with wings.

Wow you guys. I had to come back to this thread. I couldn't read it all at once, it was making me queasy. Please go back and reread my articles for the past few issues. I know there's one on Bargain Shopping. I can repost it here too.

                  Past mistakes:
                  High hairsprayed bangs
                  Leggings with long sweaters
                  Really baggy clothes

                  Currently:
Occassionally no make up on weekends (unless we're meeting up with people or going out)
I also have a ten year old sweatshirt but mine is from college
                  I have a couple of ripped/stained t-shirts that I wear at home
There are some stains on my bathrobe that don't come off
I have a few designer items that I bought on a huge sale that don't fit me that great but I had to have them

Wait a minute, bathrobes DON'T count, um mine is so ratter tattered and bleach stained that it only comes out when necessary. Seriously, this doesn't count, find another nono

I like to wear scrub bottoms at home. They're very comfy. And in the summer I have a few pairs that I've cut into shorts.

And I look like crap when I fly because I hate being uncomfortable for 7 hours. And I don't like rubbing nice clothes against plane seats.

                        Past:

                        Big bangs
                        Rolled up/pegged pants
leggings with big sweaters (in high school)
                        overalls
                        baggy clothes

                        Current

-Don't take enough time to "do" myself up-no makeup, hair in pony tail and yucky clothes
-Wear yoga pants most of the time because if I am out, it usually means 1. I am coming or going to the gym or 2. Yeah- none of my regular clothes fit me.
-Some of my pants are too short for current standards. I am too tall for many pants, but the long versions are too long. I am too lazy to get them altered.
                        -I wear capris/cropped pants
                        -I stink at accessorizing
-Many of my shirts have spit-up stains on them
-I don't have "good bras" since I am nursing
-I let my bad fashion rub off on some of my kid's interesting outfit choices

                        Exhibit A
