Ok, please be kind. This is the dress I got for DH's graduation in May. Hopefully, going shopping for accessories soon. What do you guys think? I am fashion retarded. I don't like big gaudy jewelry and I don't wear make up. Though I realize that I will probably have to slap something on my face. Suggestions I have already receive include red or gold shoes, a big hat, an up-do, straightening my hair & wearing it down (DH would die, he hates my hair straight), a black wrap, dramatic make up w/ red lipstick, and black pearls. I am also trying to wear the same dress to DH's stepbrother's wedding in early June which will be at a country club in So Cal. So suggestions for both occasions would be greatly appreciated. And if you hate the dress, that's ok too. My mother told me that she hates it. Oh, and try to ignore my sour expression, I hate having my picture taken. Don't I sound like a barrel of fun? Hey, in my better/"younger" days, half a drink had me dancing on tables at the Sigma Chi house. Thanks for any input. Davita

Here's the dress and my sour face:

Love the dress. and you're not too pissy.

I'm an accessory loser but I'm sure our girls in the know will know.

I like the dress! I'll let the officials weigh in on this, as last time, someone asked this question my advice wasn't taken...I'm conservative in my tastes(I used to manage for Talbots).

Although in college I could slip from tart , to preppy, to hippy chick w/ total ease...I was a chameleon of sorts!
(sorry for the hijack, it's just your reference to college days took me back!)... carry on

Skip the hat and the gold shoes. What's your favorite color? You don't necessarily need to accessorize B&W outfit with red, it can be any bright color. But doing shoes/wrap/jewerly in all one color will be a bit much. do you already own anything that you'd thought about wearing with this dress? Or you're looking to get new stuff? What's your budget?

Thanks guys. Oh good, I was dreading the big hat and gold shoes. My favorite colors are black and pink. I also like deep purples, red is fine too. I don't own anything. I plan on shopping for something and not spending too much. Oh, I do have some strappy black heels. They're from J.CrewSo accessories for under $100 would be great.

Those are really cute shoes to go with a great (and flattering!) dress. I would probably wear a black cardigan with a chunky black necklace and skip the earrings. I would wear your hair up - it looks really pretty and will elongate your neck. AND, I think that will work for both occasions.

So... I know I didn't pick a color, but I love black and white outfits. I think they just look so classy.

ha! I should've responded after all...what Stella suggests is exactly what I was thinking, even the up do for the hair!!
For the necklace, I would like to suggest a faux tahitian chunky black pearl necklace!

Take a look at this site, Carolee is in most dept stores I used to buy mine @ Talbots(employee discount)...anyway lots to look at and chose from!!!

I'm also fashion retarded but just wanted to say you are beautiful and so is the dress!

Thanks for all the suggestions and compliments. So if I go black and white pearls... how big is too big?

I think a chunky necklace would look fine on you and so would something delicate. You are thin so you can get away with either one! Let us see the results when the time comes.

Oh no... I didn't pay 170$ for the shoes!! I bought them awhile ago when they were on sale. JCrew is weird sometimes, they'll clearance their stuff then bring the same (at least it looks like the same product) product back at regular price. Thanks for the shoe links. I will definitely book mark that site for the future.
