I remember the metallics, too. Maybe that's why I just can't do them again. I had the same reaction to gauchos.

    They're baaaack!

I'm not sure they are meant for near 40 year olds, though. I'm not "sparkly" anymore.

      I know, Suz, I know.

You'll notice that I've said nothing. Whereas I could have said, "you can probably find my old ones at the Good Will".

I had a fab pair of Gold Sunglasses and I must say they looked fantastic with my hair spiked up, my lime green dress with my bright neon pink sweater. (it was my combination Punk/Preppy look) (I wore neon pink heels, FYI)

BTDT. I felt the same way when bell bottoms emerged. Had some in elementary school, don't need to relive it.

Yeah, but remember how some of you thought the gold was soooo cool (maybe not DCJenn, although you DID go out and buy them haha... ) but our generation didn't get to experience the excitement of shiny metallic gold shoes like yours did, so now it's our chance!

Well it maybe your chance, but like Tara said we got ours @ payless...man they really stick it to you young folks!
I am just curious were you guys born before or after 1984?

If payless had metallic shoes, I'd snatch them up in a second. If not, then I find my bargains elsewhere

            I was born in '84.

Ok- let's all watch Vishenka, Stella and Lily shudder.

Jenn, what does that make the new total? Will you ever run out of variations?

Stella, the last ones are so cute, and only $10. Wow. Thanks.

                V,
I know. Those actually ended up being my favorite ones that I found.

                I was born pre-Orwell.

Also, I have been wearing metallic (tastefully, mind you) for a long time. I don't follow a lot of "trends." I just wear what I like and it usually looks good. What can I say?

Back to Stella's Wish List now...

I bought these from Target today!

I graduated from high school in 1984. Just so we are all on the same page here! I think Luanne must be class of '81.

Vishenka- Should I win all three pair, I think I'll have 21. I have to count though because I vaguely remember purging some of the closed toe actual shoe-like birkenstocks because they didn't fit right.

and so we're all clear- no, 40 year olds or nearly 40 year olds need not sparkle. We'd end up looking the the ladies from Cawfee Tawlk on SNL.

I do think sparkle can be done right. I agree that a lot of it is way too 80s looking. As long as the sparkly item is not the main thing in an outfit and is tasteful, then go fo rit. I would prefer metal toned sandals vs boots and clutches vs hobos. Less is more.

                    Are all 21 pairs opentoe?

I have a pair of low heel slides that are made of a bronze-y mesh. I wore them a lot two summers ago. They are now my "summer" fancy shoe. I suppose the metalics craze must have some fashion ammo if it cracked my 5 pair of shoes closet. The bronze is better for "a woman of my age" . I think I'd look crazy if I tried to pull off gold stilletos. I could have done that when I was in my twenties in NYC. Now....not so much. Heck, I couldn't even manage to wear a black cocktail dress to an event here. Gold stilletos? That would never fly. Not in the family filled suburbs of Ohio when you are 40. Metallics that are more burnished in a less flashy shoe style are seen here often. We have a lot of fashionistas and boutiques-- but the style is different from what I saw in urban areas at a younger age.

I'm still learning. Thanks to all you iMSN fashion people!
