  • Laser Hair Removal

I don't think this belongs in Retail Therapy but don't know where else it would belong either.

Has anyone tried this? I've been thinking about doing this for awhile. Although my hair is thin, it's also dark and my skin is a light olive, so it shows up pretty easily on my face. I Jolen (read=cream hair bleach) every few weeks but I'm still self-conscious of it...getting rid of the fuzz permanently would be amazing.

I have. It's great but expensive. If you do it, go to a dermatologist or plastic surgeon even if it costs more. I'd also ask if you need to be concerned about hyper-pigmentation and what they do about that.

Nellie, I was just going to ask you what you (and Dr. cupcake) thought. Are there any lasers in particular that I should look out for?

DH is already against it (he thinks I don't need it and it's a waste of $$) but honestly I spend so little money on myself and we'll be trekking around like nomads b/c of his training for so long, he can just shove his opinion on this.

My sister goes to American Laser (http://www.americanlaser.com) and she likes it because they have a 2 year guarantee - so if the hair comes back anytime for up to 2 years after treatment, they will re-treat the area for free.
I don't know if it's an MD that does it though and I don't know what kind of laser they use.

          Dr. Cupcake....oh, I like that.

I'll ask him and PM you. I asked for someone else and I can't remember what he said.

It's one of my post-training dreams. I'd love to do this head to toe, but unfortunately it's one of those things that will have to wait until real paychecks. If you go to an MD, can you use Flex to pay for it?

I heard a friend of a friend paid $10,000 to get her whole body lasered. She is a single doc in post-training though.

I think I'm just going to do my face for now and work on the other parts when DH is done.

I wish I'd gotten my mom's hair genes...she didn't need to shave until she hit menopause. Me? I started at age 11.

I have thick hair everywhere. Very uncommon for an Asian woman, or Asian man for that matter, but I'm literally a little ball of fur. I think it would cost me over 10k to get the hair zapped off of me, but I'd rather be hairy with a downpayment on a house... It's a never-ending battle for me - when I wax, the hair takes revenge. It grows back fiercer and more pissed off than ever.

No not TMI. I feel like a little ball of fur sometimes too.

I think waxing made my hair worse too. I did it once to my face in high school and it grew back even worse than before. And it seems to be getting worse as I get older.

                    I'm furry too.

After having my eyebrows waxed for, oh, a good 10 years, I'm noticing a difference in hair growth. I think it takes a lot longer.

I would love to laser my legs but that might be asking a little too much, would take a while, and the "discomfort" part might get annoying. I think I just need another treatment or two on my upper lip and bikini line and I'll be done.

I'm not sure about the flex dollars. Good question!

I would say uncomfortable. And one of those things that really is uncomfortable when they say that and not painful. It's sort of like a rubber band snapping on your skin. It's maybe 6-10 times on the upper lip. Not bad at all. It would be the...couple hundred? ...on my legs that would get annoying.

A friend at the office said the place gave her this numbing cream to put on her legs before each session. I bet I could get lidocaine or something from DH.

I'm glad I'm not the only ball of fur around here.

I want to get my whole area under my big girl panties done and my underarms.

I've been looking into it lately too. It's awfully expensive, but would be worth it if we could afford it. I am hoping in the future for chin, neck, bikini, belly, leggs and underarms. Yes, I am very hairy.

I had electrolysis on my upper lip in high school, so if it's less painful than that, it should be a breeze.
