  • late notice from DH --

The hospital where DH works has ONE fancy thing a year.

Last year it was the third weekend in September. This year.....A WEEK FROM FRIDAY???!!!!   (DH JUST told me this via phone.)

    I need a black dress.
The fundraiser is called "Black and White" and I'm SO NOT wearing white.

What do you think about this one?

I like the shoulders/arms, crinkle, high waist and swooshy skirt.

    Shoes?
    HELP?

    the dress is beautiful!

maybe some silver or pewter strappy shoes? or does that defy the black and white theme?

Thanks. Now I have to get out a tape measure and figure out what size I am. Ug. I'm going for "flattering." I also think this is the kind of dress I can still use five years from now?

I love silver! I have dark hair and blue eyes so a touch of silver would look nice I think.

HMMMM off to find that damn tape measure.
        This should be depressing.

I have a question about clutch purses...what exactly can you fit in there? Other than my ID and some money...??

They look great but can you fit a lipstick in one?

Signed: my newest purse is a diaper bag

clutches usually fit a few bills, credit card, ID, lipstick, house keys... and sometimes even a phone.

when paying for the beaded clutch think ahead and buy something that will go with other formal dresses... they're not cheap but seriously should last you into the ages. I think I bought mine from Lord & Taylor and aimed for a pretty pattern with every color I could possibly wear (navy, gold, copper, black. red...)

If you're handy, my sister also made me a few and she claims it was quick & easy. I am not handy and thank god she makes things like throw pillows and clutches for me.

I would wear some black mandals and leggings with it.

Um, I would go with what other people say, but if it is a black and white even maybe you should wear white accessories with black sandals or pumps? Audrey Hepburn?

I love Audrey. Not sure I could pull that off though.

                Here's another question:

In the size chart I fit a certain size except in one area (the waist) I am a tad larger (an inch). Do I go the next size up?

This dress seems A line anyway.....I'm worried about the bust area being too big if I go one size up.

I tend to go with the order both and return the one that does work line of thinking, esp. given your time constraints. but then I constantly have a pile of things to return - so guilty of the online shopping problem.

I would order two sizes, too. DH calls me the "Queen of Returns" for this reason. I'm just waiting for stores to start banning me.

If it's just the waist that's a little tight, then a tummy trimmer should do the trick. You'll look great!

I'm wearing my new spanks that evening.
I hear Jessica Alba wears them so what have I got to lose?

Sounds great and the dress is lovely! You'll be able to wear that forever! I have a feeling the smaller size will work just fine.

I'd go with Heidi's suggestion (not the mandals ) and go with white shoes, etc. for accessories. I like that better than silver. (Sorry!) And I think you could definitely pull it off. It's not just Hepburn that does black and white - Chanel, Julia Roberts, Zac Posen, Michael Kors, etc. etc.

                            You're going to look great!

Do you have an example Stella of white shoes with a black dress....a picture?

                              Feeling stumped.
