Has anyone had jeans altered in the waist, taken in? I want to try this myself, I mean if someone else can do it why can't I :waiting: But I know I'm gonna ruin a couple pairs trying to figure it out. I have some old jeans I'd like to keep, and want to try, I have nothing to lose.

    tips?

My sis has had some taken in...I think all they did was pinch the waist at the middle of her back and sew....she had them altered so they would stop gaping open when she sat down. Not sure if that's what you meant.

My best friend has hers done in the waist and the hem and it was only about $7/pair.

Yeah that's what I was thinking. Stella that is a good deal, IMO. I was paying $7 a pair just for hemming from a gal who worked out of her home, and that was cheap vs the $12 at a tailor shop. I have had LOTS of things altered over the years. This dress I bought for my sisters wedding (I was in the wedding party) for $140, cost me $75 to hem. That was a deal vs teh $110 that everyone else was charging - hello that's almost what the dress cost!! That's what happens when even Petite clothing is too long. I just got a new pair of jeans from Anne Taylor Loft (I had a coupon btw) and they are 3" longer than my other jeans from there, petite size. I'm pissed off about it too. I tried on every jean there, had one that worked great, and now I have to hem it. DARN IT!!! Anyway I may try a local tailor and see how they do on a pair I was gonna give away, then if all is well give them the good stuff. Or may just make myself a guinnie pig and do it myself. I hate having to pay for this all the time. It makes your outfit cost 10% more just to fit.

Don't really have any tailoring advice, but when I shop I always add the alteration to the price of the item to determine if it's really worth it.

I think the easiest way to alter clothing is along the seams that are already there.
