  • It's finally FALL!!!!

What do you think about this jacket?

    http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/2952225

Is it boring? Is it dressy enough for work? Is it an ok cut for short people?

I like it but I'm not the fashion guru and I don't think it would look funny on short people. I'm short and like coats that length.

I like coats this length too. But I'm always second-guessing myself.

IMO, it's alright. I'm more of a button instead of zipper coat kind of girl. But I am also of the school that you should wear what you want because you like it and feel comfortable in it not because it's "fashionable."

This one is fun, but it isn't long. My friend just bought one.

I love coats. I have 4 winter coats (2 of them I had long before I moved to the midwest). I have an older version of this one in a deep red.

I have older versions of this one in black and a brown tweed.

And I have their puffer from last year. Not really digging the pockets on this year's puffer.

          Re: It's finally FALL!!!!

Oh gosh, if you thought I was bad with shoes, you would positively keel over if you saw my coat collection. I have no idea how many I have, but I'm sure just about anyone who knows me IRL could tell you it's TOO MANY. I looooove coats!

But back to the matter at hand, I think you are about 5'2" or something right? I would probably go with a shorter coat because this one will make you look shorter. However, if you don't care about that, then go for it. It looks easy to clean and waterproof - is it? Just make sure you keep your posture in this coat b/c if you don't, you'll look pudgy. But that's true with almost anything isn't it?

            Re: It's finally FALL!!!!

            Hey Davita:
            I couldn't open your two jcrew.com links.

I have a couple of wool pea coats, but I can't really wear them when it's rainy. It drives me nuts when wool gets wet.

            Stella:
I like the idea of shorter coats, but I do want some coverage that a raincoat offers. It doesn't have a belt that would cut me (visually) in half, so I thought it wouldn't be too bad... I'll go try it on and see what it's like.

            Thanks for your help!

              Re: It's finally FALL!!!!

Alison, nothing wrong with the coat but I find it a bit blah'ish. Try it on in the store and see if you feel comfortable. Both of my rain coats have belts. As long as the entire sillouette is the same color, it won't cut you in half but give you a more defined waist.

Short (waist length) coats are good for short people because it elongates your legs. Just make sure that it's not too puffy or the collar doesn't swallow you. I think the one Davita posted might.

Fall/winter is bleak enough, go for some color to cheer you up. It's impossible to be in a bad mood while wearing bright happy colors. Stop worrying about matching and blending in and go for it.

                  Re: It's finally FALL!!!!

Good thread. I decided this year I am going to get a nice trench type coat and replace my longer wool coat. It's classic but time for something new and more weather appropriate.

                    Re: It's finally FALL!!!!

Thanks, Davita. I have coats like those. For when it dips into the 40s. I need something for the 50-degree temps.

Vishenka - examples, please?! I don't want it to be too much color, because I'll get tired of wearing the coat, I think.

This might be a bit warmer than what you're looking for but it's an idea:

I'll keep looking for more colors.

                        Re: It's finally FALL!!!!

Well, I didn't exactly mean waist length. No matter how short I was, I wouldn't wear one of those in the cold - brrrrr on the tummy!

BUT, I also don't think that I knee or thigh length coat is a good length for someone short. (My mom is the same height/build as you so I work with her on this a lot. ) I think a coat that hits at the hip is flattering to almost anyone and it will keep the cold out too.

Lastly, belts are okay - ditto to Vishenka's whole paragraph on that.

                        Here are my suggestions:

I like the yellow one, Stella! Although I don't look good in yellow.
And I like the Kenneth Cole one. The Paddington Bear one, not as much, but cute, cute, cute.

Bring on some more, Vishenka. What brand/website is the white one that you posted?
