If you got him a book would he make the time or find the time? DH is a HUGE U2 fan, last year for Christmas his parents bought him this coffee table book about U2 and he uses it as a break. He's had it for a year and hasn't gotten through it but loves it. So this year I got him something similar about the Godfather movies because I know he'll like it just as much.

They're really hard to buy for.

Gifts that Dh has received and used (a lot!) at work: iPod, music cards, speaker system for said iPod, Dansko clogs, surgical hats, Starbucks card or Einstein Bagels card when they were in the lobby of the hospital, Blackberry/Palm.

It's an adjustment. Now I realize these are the only type of gifts DH receives. I guess the hobbies are officially DOA. :>

Dh has an amazon wish list. You could put the ball back in his court. Dh and I don't exchange gifts; we go out to dinner on holidays and birthdays and I prefer this much more than clutter that eventually we'll have to pack up in boxes when he's done with residency.

Dh cooks for me on or near Valentine's Day.

We're too practical.

I think those Bose noise cancellation headphones are kind of neat. DH travels frequently on planes (like every few weeks) and you can use them to completely block the engine noise and also can use with iPods, MP3 players, portable DVD players etc.

I got my dh noise cancellation headphones for Christmas this year. He wanted the Bose - but I'm not paying $400 for something he'll eventually leave behind on a plane, or destroy by sitting on it. I bought a nicely rated pair for $60. I'll be ticked when he loses them, but I'll get over it a lot faster.

He loves them and can wear them with his iPod to block out the sound of our snow blower which is from the 70's (i.e. loud!). We got FIL a pair for Christmas too.

I use these when I travel and love them because (unlike the Bose headphones) these are compact and fit in my purse (for your DH - may fit in a pocket). They were also a fraction of the Bose price.

I'm not sure who makes them, but the version I have is silver with "iSymphony" on it; the "skullcandy" rebranding is the version DH has. Since they collapse, they're relatively compact, for over-ear NC headphones, and you can plug any audio cord into them (rather than them having the cord hardwired in that could break or fray or get tangled). It comes with a handy carrying case that holds the phones, a retractable cable and my iPod nano comfortably for when I travel. I love them!

FMIL got FFIL the noise-cancelling headphones for Christmas this year. She also got him a camcorder because they are going to Africa next year. (Such is the life after attendinghood - he retired this year. )

I got SO a laptop messenger bag, a sweater, some matching picture frames and a big ol' 8x10 picture of yours truly. (Yep, even my gifts are vain. ) Seriously though, I had the hardest time finding him something.

What about a chair massager thing, some nice slippers, a bathrobe, Beer of the Month club, iPod, gym membership, restaurant gift certs, new home office desk, cashmere throw, nice pea coat or jacket, monogrammed tie pin (assuming his hospital still allows ties), cashmere socks, PJs or loungewear, nice scarf, or... I dunno... a big ol' 8x10 photo of you.

Anybody have a wireless NC headphone recommendation? I'm looking for some for DH. He will be using them in the spa outside, so wireless would be the way to go.

We really only do presents on birthdays, for other occasions we take trips and buy stuff for the apt.

This year, I'm actually thinking of going for massages as our New Year's present to each other.

we decided to get a DVR... which amuses me only because there is nothing to watch lately. but we've been talking about it forever and we're finally going to do it.

we usually don't do presents... or do presents when we want them rather than waiting for the holiday to roll around. I got him an ipod for his 30th about 3 months before the actual day... and we fought over who got to use it that he bought me one for Christmas about 2 months before the actual event.

Romantic, aren't we?
