    Re: Stand Mixers

I am a kitchenaid fan. Mine is an artisan - cobalt blue. I have thought about putting racing stripes/fire ala Alton Brown on it. My mom, mil are also fans and so was my grandmother. Speaking of grandmother, hers still works. I cannot even tell you how old it is. So, I can vouch for their longevity. One thing though, they are all heavy but the pro I have found to be even more of a PIA in this regard. My grandmother's is a pro and as much as I would love to have it because it belong to her, I do not want to haul it in and out of a cabinet...for it is a little too tall & cannot fit on the counter.

Don't know anyone that has a cuisinart - so I can't help there.
Finally - we are finished with training! Hello real world!!

I know, and that's my problem, but I am still leaning in the direction of the Cuisinart. The features, motor, capacity, just seem better, and I do think Cuisinart makes good products.

I don't own a mixer (I know....) but I think the Cuisinart looks groovy! Space age-- the mixer of the future...

Heh, too bad you didn't catch me last year. MIL gave me the Artisan, but before I even used it once, she took it back and gave it to another friend of hers (supposedly just to use - but said friend later also supposedly refused to return it).

Only issue with the 600 -- some of them have a lot of motor noise, some don't.

                Re: Stand Mixers

I have the Komen Pink Standard Kitchen Aid and it's fab. My mom has it as well.

My granmother's Sunbeam is alive and well and lives in my kitchen should I ever need two mixers at once. (I went w/ the KitchenAid because we can't find attachments for the Sunbeam anymore)

I haven't had any problems w/ my Cuisinart products- I have a coffee maker, coffee grinder and a popcorn popper. My Kitchen Aid Komen Coffee Grinder needs to be fixed because my husband put greasy flavored coffee beans in it and it burned out the motor.

If you're going to do a LOT of heavy duty mixing, then get the big daddy mixer. I find that the Kitchen Aid meets my no more than once a month mixing needs. (We also have the VitaMix Super 5000 blender which can do a lot, mixing wise as well)

I do a LOT of mixing and baking in one of these:

Except, I have a 12 years older version. I will still use this as a backup mixer. I mix a lot. Almost daily.

I have the Kitchen Aid Artisan from 2 or 3 years ago. I am not as formidable in the kitchen as your talents, but it has served me well. I love it.

                      AAAAAAACK! I really can't decide. I really, really can't.

                      http://video.cuisinart.com/video/standmixer/video.html

See, porn for foodies. I lust after this mixer. I am so tempted to just go for it, and if it dies on my too quickly, I'll swear a lot and buy a Kitchenaid.

My in-laws even commented that we are going to have to have a big kitchen one day. Yeah, no shit. At least half the house. I loves me some kitchen gadgets.

Forget shoes. I won't buy another pair for three years. I just want a mixer.

Wow, you mix every day? What else, other than baking, do you use it for? Or do you bake every day? I got a KitchenAid recently and so far only used it twice. What kind of attachments do you find most useful?

I don't have any attachments, because I have a shitty Sunbeam mixer, but, I'd love the pasta attachment.

You can use it for a lot of things! Potatoes, breads, cakes, cookies, whipped cream, pasta dough, egg whites, anything that needs to be mixed up! Well, maybe I don't use it every day, but a lot, and nearly every day for the past while, because it's been the holidays, and a lot of cookies needed to be made.

                            Re: Stand Mixers

ok - here's another reason why I love Kitchenaid...the attachments. I have been lusting after the ice cream maker but just cannot justify the $75 tag for something that I *should*only use once in a while.

Heidi - I wonder if the Cuisinart can provide you will all the same options re: attachments, etc as the Kitchenaid? Also, will the model change and make it hard for you to find additional parts/attachments later?

                              Re: Stand Mixers

I just posted a big long thing and lost it.

The Cuisinart has the following attachments:

                              Blender
                              Citrus Juicer
                              Food Processor
Meat Grinder - better meat grinder
                              Pasta Maker

                              The Kitchenaid has:

                              Pasta Maker
Pasta Sheet Roller - score 1 point extra here
Fruit & Vegetable Strainer & Food Grinder
                              Can Opener
                              Ice Cream Maker
Sausage Stuffer Kit (Use W/FGA )
Rotor Slicer & Shredder with 4 Standard Cones
                              Grain Mill
                              KitchenAid Citrus Juicer
                              Food Tray

So, I don't give a crap about MOST of those, as I already have better stand alone items. The only ones I would care about are the meat grinder, which the Cuisinart has a better one, and the pasta roller which the Cuisinart doesn't have at this time. I have a hand pasta roller.

I have also heard that using the meat grinder, pasta roller, ice cream maker, and others on the Kitchenaid really work the motor too much and cause it to overheat and be overworked. The Cuisinart has a beter motor, but it does not have the pasta roller. Dissapointment there. I am tempted to call them and ask them if they are planning on manufacturing one. A lot of the other attachments, I find kind of silly and to be overkill. I would prefer a stand alone ice cream maker, cheaper than the attachment anyway. I've got a Cuisinart Pure Indulgence on my eBay watch list now.
