  • Help picking out a winter coat

My mom wants to buy me a winter coat for my bday. I would like something super cute that I can wear almost daily when it is frickin freezing. I am thinking under $200. I already have a nice long leather coat, a short shearling coat but nothing that is down. I would really really appreciate any suggestions.

I swear by my Columbia jacket. It is extremely warm and I love the fact that the liner zips out. It isn't down, but mine is cute.

You're moving to a colder clime, right? I strongly suggest something to cover your butt. Even though some of the coats that stop at the waist are more flattering, having a warm tooshie makes a big difference.

I have a Columbia jacket with removal liner for running. Love it.

Depending on how cold your new state gets, you can go with something very long, like this

Or something more fitted but a bit shorter, like this

I likey. I was looking for something less ski parka related and more cute and hip in a variety of situations.

What ever you decide to get, you want to look for something that is fitted around the waist or hem so that cold air doesn't sneak up the jacket from underneath.

This is part of why I like the Columbia's, they have an adjustable drawstring at the waist.

O.K. I'm going to commit heresy to all you New York fashionista types who remain firmly enamored with black, but I would also suggest going with a fun bright color. Winter is dreery enough without having to dress like you are going to a funeral. I love my bright pink coat.

Kelly, there's nothing wrong with bright colors, it's just often hard to find them in winter coats. My puffer is black too, so brighten it up with some fun gloves and scarf and pink furry boots.
