Re: Swimsuit/Bikini Help for a Chubby Gal

Go to the store and try on at least 20 different options. You won't know what fits well until you look in the mirror. I have two suits by Carmen something-or-other (DH is sleeping so I can't look it up now), one if a tankini and another a one-piece. Another friend who's 5' loves their suits too. I got mine at Loehmann's, but you might be able to find them at Nordy's. I've had good luck with JCrew suits in the past too.

I think pattern plays a role just as much as cut. Pick something solid and sophisticated, you will never regret a solid black suit, but may feel uncomfortable in a funky neon pattern even though it is trendy and in. Go a little more flirty and fun with a cover up, maybe linen pants or fun tied skirt.

Secondly, pick something that fits...period. One of my big pet peeves is people who wear swim suites that are too small! No one can see the size from the outside, but they can see if that elastic is pullin in on your skin.

Most importantly, be confident in whatever you wear. Confidence is sexy! :rah:

JCrew is having free shipping that ends today (SEPTEMBER for code), I'm ordering one (or two) for myself today.

It has a plunging neckline. I don't plan to get in the water. I think the pattern will make any normal person look away from the flab and get nauseated by the huge circles.

I got two halter tops too, one in black and one in navy. The circles made me dizzy and I wanted a bit accent under the bust. One pieces might be boring but in the end they'll make me least self concious, so I'll be able to enjoy my surroundings and not focus too much on my body.

Alison, did you consider the strapless padded piece? It only came in orange but I thought it might go well with you complexion.

The problem with strapless is that I've got boobage, and the sisters need support. Even in a strapless bra, I'm constantly fidgeting. Orange is a good color for me though.

I just thought the top would definitely deflect from the midsection. I would have gotten it in any other color. I secretly hope that navy and black will give me the optical illusion of slim.

Btw, got another email today that the stores are having another 25% off their sale prices, in case there's a store nearby that still carries bathing suits.
