  • HELP

Ug. I'm in that "no mans land" for fashion due to my age. I'm 37. I have no desire to dress like I'm 25 BUT I have no desire to wear a frumpy sweater, pants that ride too high on my waist, put my hair in a ponytail and call it a day.

    I'm a "Tweener."

So I need an outfit for a holiday event we're throwing at our house.
It will be an open house with drinks and dessert. The attire is holiday casual.

I'm much more "Jackie O" than "JLo" as far as my style. I like well made classic looks that don't scream TRENDY.

I'm almost back to my pre-baby weight but my abdomen is a bit doughy still. Yuck.

I'm thinking a dressy cardigan set that is unique in some way and one of those poofy black skirts that are in right now that sit just above the knee?

I've done a lot of web searching and am completely underwhelmed.

I'm NOT on a budget here so if you want to play, go hog wild.
Yes I will need shoes and accessories more than likely.

    Wanna play?

    This is a gorgeous sweater:

    and:

This top could look very nice on almost any frame, big and small chested (I"m small chested so I think about these things )

This skirt, a tulip skirt, is very classic and makes everyone look good. It's also a twist on the traditional a-line and pencil shirt:

I love White House Black Market because not everyone goes there like Ann Taylor (which I love anyway), and I think a lot of their clothes are more classic than trendy, though they have plenty of just trendy stuff too.

I've never even heard of this option (white house black market)!

Thanks for the options! I am just checking this now and will put some time in later tonight!

I like the first sweater the best.
This is definitely on the list...

I like it too but it won't go with the type of skirt you described in your first post. It'd work best with pants or jeans. For a skirt with any kind of poof, you should stick with something shorter and snugger.

What do you think of this skirt?

              With this sweater on top?

Shoes-wise, you can either go with something more special occasion or a simple patent (which is all the rage this season):

                    Re: HELP

The sweater and skirt you put up! I got invited to a "denim free zone" party and now I'm looking for something to wear. I'm not sure if I want to make that investment but I really, really like it.

Since, Flynn said she has no budget, I went all out (sort of). What's your budget? I'll look for something similar.

                        Re: HELP

I need to look at my closet first. I'll start a new post. It's at a golf club, hence the denim free zone. It's just me and just a weeknight ornament exchange so I don't feel too stressed about it but I LOVE the skirt and sweater. Hmmm...must think of an occasion. I've got a conflict with the dressiest holiday party we get invited to so I'm off the hook this year.
