  • Winchester Shirt - How to Wear

So, for our second anniversary (cotton), I got DH a Winchester Shirt from Brooks Brothers. I always think they look so sharp! However, before I send him out in the world with the shirt (I'm the worst fashion student ever for having to ask this!), how is it worn? Like, what level of formality is it? Should he wear it with a tie and his navy suit for interviews? Or is it more something he would wear with nice slacks, no tie unbuttoned to a pre-interview dinner?

The Google isn't helping me on this one, so I appreciate your advice!

Is it a dress shirt? I'd say he can likely wear it both ways.

Yes, it's this type of shirt (only his has white vertical stripes):

It's also french cuff (as pictured)... which makes me think suit, but the color and the fact that it was on a table with more casual button-downs makes me think no suit. When he gets back I'll have him try it on with a solid tie and his navy suit I think.
I just wonder how it's intended to be worn...

I'd say both but see how it looks with his suit.

DH has several shirts like that. He wears them with suits, without (sometimes with his white coat to work) and paired them with a cashmere v neck and casual slacks. BUT DH is more of a fashion hound than I am....waaaaaay more.
Finally - we are finished with training! Hello real world!!

I had no idea that that shirt had a special name! In my world it is "shirt with white cuffs and white collar". 8 )

Well then he sounds like the most likely type of person who might judge my DH on his outfit, so I'll keep this in mind when I advise him. ...I'm having wayyy too much creating his interview wardrobe...

              Thank you!

I would also vote for both. DH has some cuffed shirts that he wears with a suit or jeans or jeans and a sports jacket. Depending on the length of the shirt, he might even get away with wearing it untucked. If he does wear it with jeans, I would suggest that they be on the taylored side and paired with a nice pair of shoes/loafers. A cashmere sweater around his shoulders would finish off the GQ look.

Thanks! DH totally rocks the button-down with jeans look. I also got those little knot cuff-links as well that he can wear with the casual looks. He can break-out the real jewelry when he wears it with a suit. Yay for versatile pieces.
