Eh, depends on the store. You have to hunt for good deals a little more, but they're still there.

Actually, with the way the retail business has been doing lately, I imagine there will be a lot more true deals in the outlets. Stores overbought. Vendors overproduced. A good chunk of that merchandise is going to be in the outlets.

Outlet stores are not for general shopping. Outlet shopping is an event, one that requires planning and list-making and advanced review of the closet.

My mom lives 15 minutes away from an outlet mall so it's less of a big deal when we're visiting but for us it would be an Event.

We just shop at the PX though and get better deals and don't pay tax.

omg, so true! Haha, when I first moved to the med school, my fellow med-wife friend (who was a mere acquaintance at the beginning of that day) and I made a trek out to Woodbury Commons. First, we missed an exit, causing us to drive an hour out of our way. Oops!
Then, upon arriving we sat down at Applebees for lunch and took out the list of stores. We checked off which ones we wanted to visit. Then, we got out the map and planned our route.

I'm actually wearing a shirt I bought that day. A CK merino wool sweater (b/c it's fuh-reezing in NYC!!!). It's not terribly exciting, but $40 for merino wool that's still in great condition two years later is a good deal, regardless if it's CK or the Gap.

It was fun. When she gets back from her husband's away rotations, I'm insisting we go again.

Back in the day when the outlet malls first started popping up you could get fantastic deals at those stores, now they are more or less regular-priced.

I have come to the conclusion that if there is a sale at the regular store, then there is nothing good going on at the outlet store. I love the Gap and Banana, and this seems to always hold true for me. Sometime I can find really good deals though at the Banana outlet. DH got a wallet for like 10 bucks.
