Skin care - foundation help

I have to plug the BE stuff too. And like MPS said, don't knock warmth until you've tried it. LOVE that stuff. It looks pretty intimidating but you only use a tiny bit. I have blue eyes so I like to wear it on my lids as the coppery color makes the blue pop.

Bases: I like to use Monistat Chafing Gel. Super cheap, and works exactly like the spendy stuff. (essentially the same ingredients) Helps the makeup glide on (mineral or other) and stay put all day as well as smooth over your pores.

I will have to look at this the next time I am at Sephora. I have blue eyes as well.

I can't do BE- but I'm old so eh, no big deal.

That said, you cannot wear liquid foundation make-up in San Antonio, TX for about 6 months a year. I have found that the Mary Kay version of mineral make-up works great and the best part of MK is that they come to YOU.

The Mary Kay stuff seems 'softer' than the BE stuff. When I wore the BE stiff I felt like the moisture was being sucked out of my body from my toes up.

Anyway, trust me, the MK ladies will be everso happy to descend upon you and give you the whole sales job. Take it for what it's worth- I use everything they make, my neighbor uses their lipgloss. but hey, it's a free facial in the comfort of your own home!

That is good to know, Jenn. I always feel like the clock is ticking on BE for me, so I am glad to know that Mary Kay has mineral options too.

They do and its cheaper too. BUT they do not have as many colors and none of them (even combining) matched my skin.

I went to BE and I really liked how the foundation looks on me. I didn't buy the starter kit for $60, because I wanted to see how it felt and looked over the course of a day.

What I don't understand, and what you can maybe clarify for me is why the set matched to my skin tone is "light," but there seemed to be hundreds of Petri dishes with foundation at the shop. How could I possibly be one of three shades that they tried on me when none were actually mixed to match my skin?

You might be lucky and have a color that's a perfect match. I do not think that my skin tone is that different but it seems to be because I have a hard time finding the right match...and I have tried almost every makeup.

I also use light but have to mix it up lighter or a little darker depending on the season.

Mine is "light" in the summer when I am tanner and "fairly light" in the winter time. I think the hundreds of petri dishes are not all foundations, many of them of various types of the mineral veil...they have (and these are not the names) matte, shimmery, REALLY shimmery, Twilight-super-sparkly...lol. I've never had to mix mine to make the right shade... They also have tons of petri dishes that are various shades of warmth, faux tan, concealer...etc.

That said, I don't like liquid foundations, and just wanted something to sort of blend and make me look matte and sheer.

I swear by Benefit's Some Kind-a Gorgeous foundation - it goes on like a cream and finishes like a powder. That, with Benetint for lips and cheeks and a cream eyeliner, neutral shadow and mascara. and I'm done with my face in 5-10 mins total.

I switched from mineral make-up to the Benefit Hello Flawless (Tara's rec?) and I think it looks better on my pores too.

I figured out what the deal is with Warmth. I went back to BE to pick up some concealer, and asked how to apply Warmth, because the first time I tried it, I looked like a kid who had gotten into her mom's blush.

Start at your forehead (!) and make a figure "3," going into your cheekbone, back out again and in at your chin.

Count me in as another BE lover. I don't. Wear make-up often, so one of the regular sized tubs lasts me a loooooooong time. Probably close to a year, give or take.

When I replaced my latest tub, I opted for the new matte finish and love it far more than the original that came in my starter kit. I tend to have weird combination skin, oily in some spots while flaky and dry in others. I combat this with a light, oil-free moisturizer (designed for acne prone teens *sigh*), and the matte foundation. Works like a charm for me.
