  • Fashion Rant

Ugh! I'm SO freaking sick of the current fashions. The skinny jean, leggings, now stirrup pants (yes, I saw them in the window of The Gap as I passed by today), and mini skirts. Does no fashion ever stay dead?!? My body just doesn't work with these fashions and I can't find anything else. I used to rely on the gap for classic jeans - wide and straight, but about a year or so ago they quit with the classics and are 100% trend. To make things worse the current pants I have only seem to last a year before giant holes occur between my thighs. Yes, they do rub together, but that's not a crime. I never had the problem with clothes getting holy before I had a kiddo so I'm wondering if it's my hormones destroying the clothing or if the clothing is just made weaker and cheaper. Sigh. I have been patching my pants (good thing I sew) but I'm getting sick of the whole situation. Boo.

    rant over.

I think the clothes are just weaker. My gap jeans are getting holes too, and I haven't even had them that long...

Ditto here. I've been wearing a pair with holes for awhile and I'm too lazy to patch. At least the holes aren't toooo awkward.

I've had good luck with Aeropostale and American Eagle jeans...if you don't mind digging through the racks with the young set.

I've had luck at the Gap with their "boot cut" and "sexy boot cut" (narrower through the thigh -- don't hate me). I'm not a skinny jeans gal either. The regular boot cut is pretty roomy and classic without too much of a flare. Also, if you are willing to spend a bit of money, the Lucky Brand "Sundowner" jean is a pretty straight/classic fit.

The skinny jeans trend has been around for so long, it's bound to be over any day, so hang in there! As for quality, I agree- clothes are becoming pricier and crappier quality.

If you read the comments on the Gap website you will see that you are not alone in your opinion of their jeans. Apparently they've changed the fabric and added more spandex to their jeans. I have a fabulously wonderful pair of old school gap jeans that are nearing the end of their life and I'm so sad. I bought a pair of levi's and a pair of j.jill jeans and I'm hoping for the best.

Not to mention when there is a lot of spandex in the jean you get "diaper butt" by the end of the day. I wish more jeans were more structured, but there are some still out there. FWIW I've had good luck with Ann Taylor Loft.

Thanks for the suggestions. I hate that my pants fit then due to the spandex they keep slipping after a few minutes.

Oh, I also saw a pair of acidwash jeans on the levis website. Barf!

ITA that these fashions are not made for real women, although thank goodness the thong hanging out of the lowrise jeans look is over. Seriously, I didn't need to see all that.

I have to say that the quality of Ann Taylor Loft has gone to hell as well although their prices have gone up. This was my ultimate favorite store and now it is like shopping at Kmart. The stuff appears that it will fall apart in one washing. I'm officially breaking up with them which SUCKS because it is the one place where I can walk in and know what size fits me.

When we're done with training and my body is back to pre-baby shape (or as close as its going to get!) my goal is to find the perfect pair of jeans regardless of the cost!

I plan on trying Zafu out once I get my body back. For now, I'm nursing and if I lose a pound it comes out of DDs milk. Has anyone tried zafu?? http://www.zafu.com/

Gah! I know! I look ridiculous because I have saggy pants and I'm constantly hefting them back up, even with a belt. Can I add too that jeans are too freaking long? WTH! It's hard enough to find jeans that fit okay without having to contend with an extra 3 inches on the bottom. Even with heels they're way too long. And I'm not short!

There is this jean bar in Dallas I want to hit up if I ever lose that 30 lbs...

I don't know, I kind of have to agree with this. I avoided jeggings for the looooooongest time because I thought, just like you, that they wouldn't look good on someone other than a skinny model. Not true. Obviously they don't look good on everyone, but you should try them first before writing them off.

However, I do agree that quality has gone to hell. Ugh!

I haven't bought anything from the GAP in about 10 years. I used to shop at Ann Taylor Loft but haven't bought anything there either for about 5 years now. Sad to hear they're going downhill in quality as well. I have around 13 pairs of pants that I rotate. I don't have a favorite pair. I purchased most of them from department stores like Dillard's and Macy's. I don't care much for brand names. I shop sale racks and go for price, style, color and fit. My legs rub together as well and I haven't had kids and if I had lipo on the inside of my legs I think they'd still rub together cuz it's just the way I'm built. I don't get holes in my regular pants but I have noticed an odd occurrence with holes developing in the crotch of two pairs of my latest pajama bottoms I've bought. Now what's up with that? Maybe because they are a light cotton knit material and cheap?
