The thing is, the ring is only worth $300 and the repairs are free. It's not getting costly, just annoying as heck. Right now both my wedding band and engagement ring are being repaired. Empty left hand for me.

      Begin hijack------

THIS is what my engagement ring looks like (but in yellow gold)

I was trying to find something that would match. Where DH got the engagement ring they didn't have anything matching in stock, but said that they could custom make something to match. We decided to look around.

I found THIS ONE at Kay's and liked it because it let light in from the side and was as close as I could find to a tension setting for a wedding band. (View from side HERE). So as you can see NEITHER my engagement ring nor my wedding band were in a channel setting... I didn't realize that diamond next to diamond could be very bad. And I'm extremely pissed at the people at Kay's for not telling me that one of the one things that can break a diamond is ANOTHER diamond! Obviously I liked how they looked too much to even THINK about such a thing.

Fast forward to less than one year of marriage and I hit my hand on my desk (I'm clumbsy). Shortly thereafter I was playing with my engagement ring and I can feel a CHIP in the diamond... I look closer at the wedding band and I can see tiny chips in the diamonds on that ring as well. I was PISSED. My ring was by far the most expensive thing we owned, it was an entire years salary (of a minimum wage job) that DH worked his butt off saving for between med school and college. Luckily we had taken the band in regularly so we got the diamonds replaced, but since then other diamonds have either chipped or been loose. As a result I seriously question the quality of the diamonds, and I also question the knowledge of their sales people since they didn't seem to think it would be a good idea to tell me that diamond next to diamond would be a bad idea. I tried to get another band from then initially but they would only give me credit from my band if I bought something TWICE as much.

And as far as my chipped engagement ring....THANK GOD, we had it insured and were able to get a brand new diamond of similar color and clarity, and along with it we ordered a custom made wedding band that matched. So I essentially have a different engagement ring and wedding band than I had when we got married. I still wear the Kay's ring, but I tend to wear it on my right hand or on my left hand alone when I don't want to wear my nice engagement ring and wedding band.

Needless to say I am NOT a fan of Kay's, but I am a huge fan of insurance!

      -----end hijack-----
