another paint question

Did we ever officially agree which forum best serves decorating questions?

I have yet another paint question. Does a jack and jill bathroom need to coordinate with the two adjacent bedrooms?

DS1's bedroom will be Sherwin Williams Supreme Green 6442. DS2's bedroom will three walls of Sherwin Williams Rythmic Blue 6806 and one wall of Kilim Beige 6106 to neutralize all that blue. In between their bedrooms is a jack and jill bath which is walled off into two sections, a sink section which leads into a walled off toilet and bath. Inspire me. I've been trolling HGTV.com and nothing makes me jump. Should I just paint it boring beige and be done with it or can I add a little color?

I'm no designer, but I think I would go with a neutral but then get accessories that coordinate with the colors of the room.

Paint it whatever your kids want, if it is agreeable to you. Don't worry about what is "correct" unless you are putting it on the market. Life is too short, and your time with your children is even shorter. Feel free to ignore me, as I have no decorating sense at all. I just wish I had spent more time "living" in my home and less time worrying about it. Compared to most people I know, I did do this, but I still wish I had done it even more!!!!!!!

I agree - if you are staying in the house, let the kids help! Paint is one of the easiest and least expensive things to change, so don't be afraid.

Thanks, I am thinking of going with a light, sunshine yellow color. The rest of the house is all open so the colors have to be near neutral to make it flow-y. Yes, I am employing a made up word. For the entry, stairs, great room, hallways I'm probably going with paper latern which is a cream with a thought of yellow. I feel like the only "play" area I have is the bedroom/bathrooms because they are closed off and don't have to coordinate with every stupid little thing. Painting the main area is much more expensive, time consuming, and involves scaffolding so I really have to LOVE it and not tire of it. I'm also hiring that out so that DH and I don't break our necks. Conversely, painting a bathroom costs about $50 and a day of my life.

Choosing paint colors is HARD. I think that it should be included as a task in premarital counseling to see how a couple performs.

*I am the mom who let 6 & 7 year old girls pick their bathroom paint (lime green, turquoise, and raspberry). Dimmer switch was installed as soon as the paint dried.*

I can't look up colors on my phone, but I see no need for doing beige in the bathroom. I would probably try to find accessories that have the blue and green in them and paint the bathroom a third color from the accessories. Try Pottery Barn kids for some inspiration.

As for the main color, you don't need to pick a boring neutral either. I have a very open layout and my main color is a mossy green. Some of the colors that flow in/out of that space are butter yellow, darker green, light green and red.

My two youngest share a bathroom - A's room is blues and greens, and C's room is grass green, pinks and pale yellow. I painted their bath pale pink, with pale yellow ceiling, bought towels that pulled in several colors from rooms, and put PBK mermaids on the walls that pulled in all the colors. It's cute, and not too matchy.

G and D have a rubber ducky theme in their shared bath that it's time to get rid of. (blue walls, yellow ceiling, white towels with ducks embroidered. cute, but tired of it)

I don't know if you want to go this cutesy, but this theme is a good example of how to incorporate both the green and the blue. I finally had a chance to check them out and they're very muted. I'm surprised you felt the need "to break up all that blue." Feel free to paint the bathroom more than one color.

I think that you guys hit the nail on the head, I'm super conservative when it comes to paint colors because I believe that I'll get it wrong. I always use pastels and never go past the second color down on the paint chip sample.

Vishenka, I love the cute car shower curtain but I'm pretty sure the 11 y.o. would object.

Kelly I am with you! I am intimidated by paint colors. Recently I picked up a couple brochures that had kids room made by Ralph Lauren paint. I loved the color combinations in the pictures.
