  • Find me a dress!

Okay, so my BF is standing up in his cousin's wedding in late October, and I am struggling to find a dress to wear.

I'd like to keep the price under $200. I am a size 2/4, and have long-ass legs, so I need to avoid anything too short. I LOVE color, so I'm not too picky there, but I do look awful in olivey tones. I own more dresses than I can count, but I do not own a "little black dress", cuz I'm super picky about them...I don't want anything too boring or too flashy, if that makes sense.

The wedding is moderately upscale, so I want something formal, but not too formal. There is no church ceremony, so keeping shoulders covered, etc. is not important. The wedding is in Wisconsin in October, so it could be anywhere between 30 and 80 degrees.

Sorry, I know I am being totally broad but with the move, new job and unhealthy obsession with attending every Brewer and Badger game possible, I haven't had time to shop for clothes and need some serious help!

Anybody been shopping lately and see anything exciting? Or anybody bored and want to shop online for me?

Listen to Lily she is the dress master - she and Vishenka helped me find the PERFECT dress for DH's graduation in July. Someday I will find another time to wear it

Haha I actually started at shopstyle but nothing popped out for me. Probably because I'm not specific enough in my search and had to sort through thousands of dresses.

I would rather not do black, since I'm very picky about black. By not too boring, I mean nothing frumpy or plain. I have no problem with solid colors, but something like a solid wrap dress would be too boring for me. By too flashy I mean no rhinestones or sequins, no obnoxious floral patterns, nothing poofy, no fake flowers. I also hate bubble hems, so none of that.

The wedding is in a turn-of-the century building. Floral carpets, ornate vaulted ceilings, etc. The reception is a similar venue. The wedding is at noon, then I'm helping his parents host a cocktail party at their house, then off to the reception. I will wear heels to the wedding/reception, but will be on my feet during the cocktail party, so I might also bring a pair of flats.I have a million pairs of shoes, so I'll have heels/flats to coordinate with any color.

Oh, and I'll be 29 at the time of the wedding.

I love rent the runway, but it's usually my last resort. I go to enough weddings, etc. that I'd rather own a dress, if possible.

This is really beautiful in person: http://www.anthropologie.com/anthro/...e=subCategory#

I wanted to get this for a wedding I am going to at the end of August...but I am excessively busty and can't wear strapless. There is some tulle under the skirt (enough to make it a little poofy but not too much)

This one is cute too, but a little less dressy -- still very pretty though: http://www.anthropologie.com/anthro/...templateType=D

On the upside it's on sale and super cheap!

Or this one (but a bit boring): http://www.anthropologie.com/anthro/...templateType=D

The first one is super cute, but I think it's a little too summery for late October. The second one isn't quite dressy enough for the venue, but it just might have to be my sister's bday gift. I'm not really a floral person, but she would LOVE it! Thanks for the tip! Haha

ETA: I'm gonna see if my local Anthro has the third dress. It's super cute, but I'd have to see it in person.

Oh, and since you mentioned it, I'm totally not gifted in the chest area. So strapless is totally doable!

I have looked into Rent the Runway before. Super fun dresses, purses, etc. Do you have a Nordstrom Rack close to you? Worth checking out. Good luck!

I cannot recommend Zappos highly enough. They are one of the few wholly online retailers the get things correct 99.9999% of the time. They randomly upgrade shipping for established customers and have friendly and efficient CS peeps.

Speaking of rent the runway, there's a living social deal today for it.

As for dress purchases I love Nordstrom and Zapppos for shoes.

I totally forgot about Zappos! I'm a shopbop girl for the free shipping to and fro, but always forget that Zappos has the same thing. Thanks!

Hmmmm I might just have to buy that Living Social deal for RTR...I mean, I need something for the rehearsal dinner too, right?

Looove Zappos, but also look at Nordstrom. That's my go to for dressy dresses and they have free shipping both ways also. This is the dress I wore from them to an evening wedding this Saturday. http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/adrianna...resultback=205

I love nordstrom as well! I didn't realize they had free shipping both ways! Is that new-ish? I've become a shopping hermit since residency started. Which is scary, seeing as before, I might have had what some would call a "shopping problem". I actually ordered a black lacy dress from shopbop that should arrive today. We will see if that's a winner! (it's totally not something I would normally buy, but it looked super cute online)
