Packaging for a market?

So, the ballet company is having a Nutcracker Market in November. I'm selling my jewelry in public for the first time. (soverynervouswhatifnoonebuysanything)

So, I need to pick out packaging. I thought that instead of bags (everyone does bags), I thought I would do Chinese takeout boxes. So, I can order them online, then drive 25 miles to pick them up. Or pay huge shipping charges.

Any thoughts? Should I just do the takeout boxes and go out to BFE to pick them up? Stick with bags like everyone else? What about putting that crinkly paper stuff in the boxes? If no one buys anything is it lame to beg family to come to the studio to buy something from me?

Oh, and the raffle lady picked a jewelry set to raffle off. Luckily it is a set one of my best friends at the studio planned to buy at the market so I know at least one person will buy raffle tickets to win it.

I like the takeout box idea, are they the small ones? And - for the record, I suspect you'll sell plenty, your stuff is gorgeous. If I were nearby, I'd be there buying multiples! (Trust me, I'm so not kidding). ((hugs)) Good luck!

I was thinking quart-size? I could do pint-size or 1.5 pint. But I thought I'd try to think positive -- surely the 4 customers I get would buy enough to need a quart-sized box. Right? LOL I'm a dork.

Well, I'm pretty sure I would!! (And I am not exaggerating at all!) did you check your local craft store? I got some Christmasy ones last year on sale and gave away my cookies/goodies in them. Might be pricier though, I dunno. (I think mine was Michaels?) And-I would totally do crinkle paper/tulle/sheer fabric in the boxes to cushion the jewelry.

I looked at Hobby Lobby. I'll check Michael's this week. I figured if HL didn't have them, Mike's wouldn't either, but it's worth a shot.

Michaels has tons of those in all different colors. The girls received cute gifts in boxes that had a wad of stuffing covered with a scrap of shiny satin as a cushion. I always intended to start doing that myself.

It sounds cute, and I think your jewelry is gorgeous! I'd probably drive if shipping is that much. Overhead costs will definitely cut into your profits fast (or into your donation amount - not sure how it works).

In this case, I'd probably get smaller boxes, since it's a market. People may be wanting to buy something from each booth, so they might not buy as much as they'd like.

Sam's Club also has large packs of take out boxes, I assume Cosco would too.

I think its a cute idea. I would stick with small boxes & have a few larger just incase of a large buyer. From my experience at craft markets most by one or two things max. As well, I would not be ashamed to ask all your friends, family etc. to come to the market & support you.

My FIL's most recent ex-wife was a jewelry designer and if her ugly shit sold, your gorgeous stuff will sell by the truckload. Seriously, your stuff is on-trend and well-made.

As for the boxes, maybe two sizes? Small boxes for earrings and bracelets, larger boxes for necklaces and customers who purchase multiple items?

Do you have a business name or logo? Maybe plain white boxes with bright or vivid tissue paper and a stylish sticker with your logo/name to close it?

I found the colors an price I wanted at The Container Store. 5 minutes from home. LOL

I have stickers that say Must Accessorize and have my contact information. Various sizes that go on the tags. I think I have large enough ones to put on the boxes, it not I can print some.

Meenah - I don't sell on Etsy. I try to keep prices down and selling online makes it more expensive. If all goes well with the market, I may start an Etsy store. For now, I don't have any of the business stuff set up. I need to do it, but am afraid I'll jinx myself! I'm a dork.
