  • Sheet/bedding recommendations?

We just bought a new memory foam bed. It's being delivered Friday and since it's a different size, we have to buy all new sheets and bedding. I haven't found anything that I love. Does the iMSN collective hive mind have any good recs?

My biggest pet peeve with sheets is when they ride up and come off the corners or bunch up in the middle. Anyone have a memory foam bed? Is this not a concern like with typical beds?

No specific brand recommendation but make sure the thread count is over 300. Also, they lake sheets for thicker mattresses that shouldn't ride up.

We just got RalphLauren Dunham sheets and I'm happy with them. We've had other RL sheets in the past and liked them then as well. I would avoid the ones that come in a collection and go for their regular colored sheets. (actually I think that all companies purposefully use a cheaper quality sheet in their bedding collection sets.)

ETA we just got a new bed and it was thick!!!! Way thicker than I had anticipated and I had already bought the sheets. But they fit fine. I suspect most sheets are now made to accommodate the thicker mattresses.

We find amazingly high thread count and
quality at Tuesday Morning for a very affordable price.
        Do you have one nearby?

Another tip: if you can, buy the sheets seperately and get the top sheet one size larger. So, if it's a queen-sized mattress, get a king-sized top sheet. That way, you and your DH won't be fighting for the covers.

I'm not brand-loyal, but I love the ones that are "sateen" style, with the highest thread count I can afford/find. They are really soft and comfortable. Stores like Tuesday Morning, Ross, Marshalls, etc. often have good deals. I haven't tried Overstock for sheets, but I love that site!

This. I've been buying sheets from them for 10 years.

I never considered overstock.com. I'm always wary of buying fabric-based anything online because I can't feel it or check the construction, but I'll have to check it out. My stand-by is usually Marshall's because one nearest to us carries some really good brands.

We're going froma Cal king to a regular king because trying to find anything in-stock for a Cal king in the Midwest is futile and I'm tired of trying. I don't know if I can even get larger sheets. A regular king bed is 4" wider than the Cal king. I wonder if that will be enough? Dude and I don't really blanket hog. He just likes to steal my damn pillow every night. He has 4 and apparently still needs mine.

Thanks, ladies. I'm off to play around on overstock.com!

We bought some amazing new sheeets a few years back when we got a new bed, but I can't remember the brand or anything. haha But I do know that they have stretchy spandexy stuff on both ends so it fits wayyyy over the ends of the mattress and never slips or slides at all. Probably one of the best inventions ever!

If you've got a king, you probably don't have to worry about the cover hog situation. My DH is a passive-aggressive cover hog. He takes all the sheets from me and pulls them onto the floor.

It happens even with a king! DH will take the covers and lay on top of them in a nest-like state...doesn't remember anything about it in the AM

We have a memory foam mattress, and haven't had any issues with sheets slipping. Our favs are a set of sateen sheets from TJ Maxx, but we have purchased sheets from BBB as well. The one thing that I will say is to get a mattress cover from the store you purchased your mattress from - one specifically for memory foam. We had a traditional cover for years (waterproof, but not quilted - DH sweats like a mother post-call), and all it did was rip. We recently purchased a Tempurpaedic-specific cover from Slumberland, and OMG - it's amazing! The bed cools much quicker when you get out, and it's much more comfortable - and still completely waterproof. I think ours was like $80 for a king.

I'll quadruple recommend Tuesday Morning and Overstock.com for sheets. I bought mine at Tuesday Morning, but I was going to order them from Overstock.com had I not stumbled across these for such a great price. I know I didn't need to go with such a ridiculously high thread count, but I got a set of 1000 thread count sheets.

Whatever you end up getting, make absolutely sure you're getting sheets that are 1 ply. I specifically avoided those that didn't make mention of the type of weave because you're basically halving the thread count if the weave is 2 ply. If they didn't say, I assumed the worst. I would also avoid Macy's and Kohl's unless you shop during a super hot sale. Their sheets are ridiculously overpriced and nowhere near as nice as the other two places we all mentioned.

I'll also be honest and say that you won't love them right away. In fact, you might hate them and wonder why in the world you spent a good chunk of money on something this rough. You have to use them and wash them several times before they become soft, but you'll never go back to regular sheets after that. I think I read that some higher-end sheets come already pre-softened, but I didn't come across any of those in my search, and I did my own softening, thank you very much.

We have separate top sheets. He has the one that matches the set. I have one from our wedding set (Ralph Lauren). We just don't share well. Well, let's be honest...I don't share well.
