My DH carries around a big North Face backpack (very Colorado), so I really have no room to talk, but I also like Fossil's stuff a lot.

And I don't think I'd buy the TUMI just because it's a TUMI. It seems like there's lots of good quality leather stuff out there.

Thanks guys. I ended up buying the mid-size (but still huge) Claire Chase. My husband LOVE pockets/compartments (part of his love affair w/TUMI I guess), and this has that aplenty, as well as being high quality leather w/a good warranty. All of your suggestions really did help me suss it out.

(FWIW, I like Fossil, too, and checked those out, but they're still a bit too relaxed for what he does these days. I'd considered getting his original bag fixed up (it was so cool, it's a briefcase made from baseball glove leather), but that's too casual, too. ).

Just saw this. I was going to suggest Cole Haan. DH has a leather messenger bag that's pretty roomy and has a laptop compartment. He's pretty hard on it and it still looks great almost 2 yrs later. Their stuff is good quality and you can get a great deal at the outlets.

I looked at Cole Haan. The Messenger Bag style just isn't the right ... look for what he does. the bag arrived today, but dh is home so I haven't been able to look at it.
