  • Men's khakis

DH is cheap and picky. As in he wears Dockers relaxed fit khakis -- not the ones with a flat front. Unfortunately, he's also hard on his clothes. I had to switch his polos from the store brands to Izod. LOL

I need ideas that wont break the bank. I have to replace khakis every year. It adds up. Am I better off continuing that or switching brands? With my Macy's card and sales, I usually spend $25-30/pair and buy 3-4 pairs a year. He wears them daily to work. Sometimes with a polo, if there are patients scheduled, he wears a shirt and tie.

Oh, and he is not big on style -- I introduced colored polos to him and his dad. Because you can only look at so much red, navy, tan, gray, and black. I picked out a yellow polo for his dad and his mom thanked me! LOL

DH wears Haagar - again, not that expensive He is very hard on pants, and the only issue we will have is that after a while, the pockets start to detach from the band. This only happens near the "expandable waist" part - so maybe it's a design flaw? For a man who blows through jeans, shirts, and shoes, we haven't bought new pants in a few years.

DH has weird sizes so I buy whatever the hell I can find, whenever and wherever I find his size. He likes the Dockers flat fronts (khakis or slacks), so those are a good stand-by. I'm trying to wean him off of slacks because he'll stop wearing anything other than khakis and jeans in about 6 months. Rural medicine doesn't really require much else.

        I think we'll give Haagar a try.

Try Lands End as well. Their khakis hold up very well and lots of times you can get them on their overstock page so you'll save a ton of money

I'm trying to get my DH to wear Khakis without front pleats. I need a Queer Eye for the Straight Guy intervention. He's about as far from metrosexual as you can get.

Kelly, I really thought it said you were trying to get him to wear them WITH pleats. Honestly, why are pleated pants even made anymore? They suck on everyone. I think it's a conspiracy by dry cleaning companies so people will feel the need to have their pants pressed professionally. DH has finally figured out that pleated pants are wrong, wrong, wrong, but it took a long time (and a very flamboyant Nordstrom salesman) to convince him of this fact.

Bill's Khakis - They are pricey but the last years - yes, years. DH has had his first pair since he was an intern and they still look nice. Also his Mountain Khakis have held up well. These are not as dressy (the cut of the pant) but still look professional enough for when he goes in on the weekends or for sure under a white coat. He has worn these horseback riding, hiking and the suckers still are nice enough to wear to work. As I said, both are pricey but they do hold up to the wear/tear and grime. DH has had his pairs for years. Just got him some Mountain Khaki jeans to see if the jean material holds up as well.

BTW - I found the Bill's on sale on Rue la La as well as find them sometimes on Sierra Trading Post.
Finally - we are finished with training! Hello real world!!

DH also loves Bill's, but they are getting harder to find. A word of advice - only wash the ones that say machine washable. I shrunk a pair of DH's and he was MAD (I told him I'd gladly sacrifice some of my clothing for on-site laundry service like he receives from me!). Nordstrom stopped carrying them. If you are near a Von Maur, they are carried there. I will have to keep my eyes open for Rue La La - I didn't even think of them coming up there!

DH still likes pleated slacks because they'll fit his smallish waist and still allow enough room for his thighs. His ridic weightlifting has given the dude freakin' massive thighs. As if it wasn't already hard enough to find clothes that fit his weird sizes.

We go with Banana Republic Factory Store for cheap-ish, flat-front, modern-looking khakis. DH has worn through 3 pairs recently -- I think each lasted about 2.5 years. He wears each pair probably twice a week though? I'm trying to push him toward "real pants" - grey and other neutral wool blends - since he will need to look a little more professional and a little less schoolboy once he's in the hospitals. Man dresses like a J. Crew model, but I'm not sure the rumpled, skinny tie look is going to go over as well with the managerial set...

DH has been very happy with the Eddie Bauer khakis lately.

Hee, thanks for bumping, spam guy! My DH swears by his Carhartt work pants. They are a much heavier twill fabric than most khakis, but not so heavy as traditional carhartt canvas duck. He gets them at Sierra Trading Post (always a deep discount) when he receives a discount code by email, so they run him maybe?$20. It did take a bit of trial and error to hone in on the exact product name that works for him but now he knows just what to reorder (not that they have worn out). And DD, they do fit a monster muscular thigh and calf. Disclaimer: neither he nor I is fashion conscious, and he works in an ED so no one cares about his pants. (He does wear a shirt and tie with his khakis 3/4 of the time.)

Ooh, we have a couple of farm supply stores around here, so I might be able to find those for him to try on before we buy.
