  • Shorts emergency!

Of course I'm waiting until the last second to buy shorts for our upcoming trip.... I know I have a week till we go, but I really only have one day before we leave to shop for them.

What style shorts (fit, cut, color) work best if you're short and stalky. I know Hawaii isn't exactly a style mecca, and I probably should avoid wearing a flannel muumuu (which is my preference to hide behind), so.... ideas? BTW: Ann Taylor and ATL proportions fit me well.

I always go for bermudas. I have ugly knees and they must be hidden. Loft has some super-cute shorts -- short and longer on their website.

      I don't have knees anymore!
I saw the ones on Loft but will likely go above the knee and beige or something. I read that they shouldn't have a cuff and should be the same color as your legs to elongate them. So bright white then?!

My shorts rule has generally been not to go shorter than I would if it were a skirt and to stay away from pleats. And if you go with white, beware of visable panty lines.

Have u tried the J Crew ones? They have 5" length that's a good inbetween bermudas and short shorts.

5" is too short! No one needs to see everything when I bend over. Eeeks! I'll spare the island of Oahu that one.

Will bermudas look silly on a 5' tall person? I mean, I have visions that I'll look like a little schoolboy....

I should really stick to shorts, because of the whole toddler wanting-to-get-under the skirt thing. We're going through that phase right now.

I think of bermuda shorts as being just above the knee, which for me is only about 9" (I'm short too, 5'2"). I'd say it just depends on how much leg you're comfortable showing. If you go for a longer length, I'd definitely do a light khaki or something close to skin color like you said so there's not such an abrupt line visually.

A low wedge heel will help too so you can do a bermuda and still be able to chase a toddler.

I recently bought 3 pairs of Tommy Hilfiger shorts (different khaki colors) at TJMaxx, and they are super flattering in length.
It doesn't say what style they are, unfortunately.
I only purchased them because the style is flattering on me, and I have a hard time with shorts being appropriate (5' 10").

                            I love the inseam length.
