  • Sirius Satellite Radio

I need some help coming up with justification to keep the Sirius satellite radio in my van. We had a trial and it's up in May. I have my girls asking to listen to the Catholic station -- they love The Catholic Guy show and The Catholics Next Door. I do too. We don't have cable or expensive internet (ATT DSL - $35/month). Just Netflix and cell phones (2 iPhones with the $15 data plan). I don't wanna give up Sirius! Give me some arguments for keeping it. Please!

*I could get away with keeping it and not telling DH how much I paid, but I want to be honest.

If you let it lapse, you should get offers to continue it for less than it is for continued service. You could also try calling them, though, and say that you want to keep the service, but that it's too much money. They'll probably find you a discount.

I would look (hello, google, my friend), to try to find what common promotions and discounts that others get so that you can try to get the same thing. "My friend has Sirius and told me she pays 'X', could I get the same rate?"

Perhaps you can work The Catholic Guy Show into your home schooling curriculum?

We have it in DH's car and it's something I'd never considered before we bought his car that came with a free trial. He loved it so I went ahead and bought it for another year for him. I say do it if it's something that you all really enjoy. Particularly, if it's something that supports your faith.

The cheapest I've seen it is $8 a month. Don't settle for more than that!!! I'm debating whether Lithium is worth it. . Especially now that I'm driving 6+h per week for work.

I didn't know you could negotiate the price. I nearly passed out when they sent me the price list when we got my car. $8 a month is definitely worth it if they let you.

I think we paid $160 for an entire year (something close to that). Just a note, when ours lapsed we never received new offers in the mail and were actually told we could have got a better price if we didn't let it lapse. Who knows if that's true or not though. If it's supporting your faith then that is a huge bonus, one worth spending some extra money for, imho.

I think I paid about $160/year, too. Depends on programming.

My free trial just ended too. I'm shocked that I'm so bummed about it. Let me know if calling gets you a better deal (my mom was just telling me that calling worked for her - but theirs didn't lapse, do not sure if that matters.).

Btw - my trial continued for an extra month before they cut it off - so if you're at the end of your trial it could be worth it to hold out for a few weeks before actually signing up.

You will still have to pay for that extra month. They'll eventually bill you.

Yep - we cancelled ours, and they ended up sending us to collection - over $12. We only cancelled because I was trading my car in and waiting for my next car. Needless to say, Sirius lost my business. I'm tired of paying companies for shitty customer service that preys on individuals. I am perfectly happy with Pandora through my mp3 jack, although my kids do miss Kids Place Live.

Yeah, they may violate federal laws when it comes to notification of an outstanding bill prior to sending them to collections. We didn't have any notice, no bill, no calls, zilch. When I called to renew, they just added the extra month to what I paid. Two days later I received a call that our account had been sent to collections. I called the collection company back and they said that this happened all the time. Sirius doesn't notify people adequately before sending out bills to collectors. It's really weird.

Come to think of it, I had the same experience that Deebs had.
