Never been to Vegas...for a good reason - not our type of place - we are more outdoorsy types. However, we are going for 4 days for a friend's birthday. I am excited about checking out new amazing restaurants until I realized that I will probably need cocktail-type dresses. Now, I love dresses - have no problem there. The problem is that I go from Brooks Brothers, Tahari, Ann Taylor, etc. type suits to Patagonia, Athletica, Ibex, etc. type of clothing. For church, I will wear a sun dress or a tunic with some dressy linen pants. Other than that, I do not have anything sequined, shiny or remotely resembling a cocktail dress. I do have a couple of LBDs but they are on the conservative side...I'd feel comfortable at work, church or even at a funeral.

I am hoping you guys will have some recs for me. Is there something that looks cocktail-ish that I could wear again? If not, I am looking for cheeeeeap since I will probably not wear it ever again.
Finally - we are finished with training! Hello real world!!

    where are you staying?
I'm not a party-vegas-style person or a trashy in ho-clothes person either, but vegas has AMAZING shopping and i'd leave it to getting there - because you can get SO much for SO cheap.

In the mall that's attached to Planet Hollywood, there is pretty much every store you can imagine, cheap ones, expensive ones etc.

For the dinners out that we went to I wore a few silk strapless fitted dresses from the Gap similar to this one from Banana Republic

This would work too for any going out night

I also did a lot of satiny short shorts with sparkly tanks and silk blazers. With ridiculously sparkly shoes. All can be bought for cheap there in the malls. You could also hit up Forever 21 and get a ridiculous amount of ridiculous going out clothes for very little money.

Staying at the MGM grand. I like the first BR and the second F21...Maybe I should just get a strapless number that I can pair with a suit jacket later?? Yeah - I too think of sequin when I think of vegas...and sequin scares me. I will have to try it on - don't know if I can pull it off.

haha - yeah - it's a different world, but really - you'll blend in no matter what you wear - there are SO many people there and so many different people there. Even people in thong underwear walking down the street, as long as you're not *that* person, you'll blend in.

Forever 21 is great because it's all so cheap, and to be frank, you wash it once and it falls apart, so you're really getting good use out of it

I think you can really go either way in Vegas, if you're going to nicer restaurants then yes, a cocktail dress is going to be more suitable. Your DH will also want to check there are some restaurants that are jacket required. When you're not going out for dinner I'd wear whatever is comfortable, cute tops and shorts would be more then appropriate in the Vegas summer heat IMO.

            Have fun!

We were there for a conference almost two years ago, when I was less than 1 year postpartum. I shopped at Express with a ton of luck.

I think what you already own will be fine, I wouldn't spend a bunch of money for clothes for Vegas.

Unfortunately, my friend is a girly-girl. She'll be rocking the cocktail dress nightly...I will HAVE to dress up. Looked at White House Black Market, Ann Taylor, Talbots, Gap, Banana, Express, Rue La La, Gilt and have not found a thing. There were some great dresses on Ideeli several weeks ago and now nothing. I may hit the stores to see what they have tomorrow...hopefully there are some great bargains that are not online.

Do you have Charlotte Russe? I don't know if you'll find cocktail dresses there, but you might find cute skirt/top combos for cheap. They're very similar to forever 21. I would also try JCPenneys or Sears. Sometimes you just get lucky, right?

Keep looking, I think you'll find something. Isn't all the prom stuff hanging around the department store. Not that you need a prom dress but still. I see lots of Vegas like stuff when I'm in the stores these days. Did you look at Kohls? I know Vera Wang has a line there... not sure if she had the type of dresses you are looking for. Maybe?

Have you looked at Rent the Runway? There is a lot of cute stuff on there. Plus you borrow it and return it, so it won't sit unused in your closet for another year. I think there is some cool stuff in Forever 21, but I can't fit in their stuff at all. And I'm a size 10/12. What about H&M? Limited has some cute dresses right now: http://www.thelimited.com/category/a...rder=&page=all. And so does NY&Co: http://www.nyandcompany.com/nyco/cat...ketingPriority

Good luck shopping! And don't worry about wearing something glam/girly for your friend, wear whatever makes you feel hot. And cool because it is really hot there right now!

I thought it screamed vegas. Hopefully it does to scream Chesire Cat http://www.alice-in-wonderland.net/p...-pictures.html

Ordered it through Ebates and used the 17360 coupon code for $10 off of $50.

Sorry, I have no fashion advice for you, but I should tell you that Vegas is a _great_ place for outdoors stuff. You can stay in a nice room for pretty cheap, all you can eat buffet breakfast for a couple bucks, and drive a bit to great hiking. Short drive to Red Rock Canyon, and longer drives to other spectacular hikes. So if you have some free time and a rental car, check it out.
