  • Walking shoes

I'm thinking about purchasing some nice looking yet plain walking shoes for New York. I'm cheap and about comfort so I would normally wear my asics but that would embarrass my MIL who is into fashion. I need to keep it well under $100 and want something neutral. Any suggestions of brands or styles that would go with khakis, jeans and possibly dresses (if its hot).

My suggestion would be minimalist shoes a la vibram five fingers or some less scary ones, but you wanted something nice looking.

I really like my Clarks and Born shoes. I usually get a 2-3 inch heel for walking around, but they have some cute flat shoes too.

Clarks, Teva or Earth. Can't say they are super cheap though. If the money is too tight just wear the running shoes and hey, maybe your mil will spring for some new shoes while you are there.

DH was planning on wearing his five fingers but his mom would be embarrassed to be seen with him unless they were running or something.

MIL has offered to help with shoes and I may let her if I can find something like.

I discovered Jambu shoes before our Disney trip last year. They are the most comfortable shoes I own.

I used a pair of Ecco mary janes- style ballet flats when we were in Europe. Kind of a running shoe base with a different style...

Anne Klein makes some comfy rubber-soled flats.

                I'd go with Born flats.

I have Keens. I love them. They are very "outdoorsy" looking, though. Not sure it would be a good fashion call...

When we went to NY, it was December, and I wore comfortable boots (not cowboy) to walk in.

Which reminds me: must get boots!

I second the Born suggestion. I got two pairs this summer and my feet are so happy.

Yep, Born flats. I got a pair of Born Adele flats last year, and my feet couldn't be happier.

I have black and brown flats but they are all super cheap (payless or target) and there is just no way I could walk all day in them! I like the Kenneth Cole ones LSW posted but they seem too affordable to be super comfy! I'm worried about getting blisters.

Okay how do I tell if they are rubber soled? I like the animal print or the maroon because I could wear with black or brown (right?) Any thoughts on any of these:

Circa Joan & David (I've never heard of this brand before).

                        Cole Haan

                        Anne Klein

                        Born (in tartufo or chianti)

ETA: what are your thoughts as far as comfort and as far as style?

My Pumas are super comfy - I'll post a pic tomorrow.

I have a pair of these that are super comfy that I'm sure I wear more then I should. (Mine have a different toe and are a little cuter then this)

I'm partial to the Borns because I know how comfy they are although the Cole Haans look like they'd offer good support too. I like the Chianti color for the Borns.
