I wish I could wear heels. Those Betsey Johnson nude pumps are way too cute.

If you want to go nude heel I would go with something a little fun like this http://www.zappos.com/betsey-johnson...h-nude-leather - the bow on the back makes them a little fun but not too crazy. Alternately you could go with a platform like this http://www.zappos.com/product/8047432/color/63200 or a nice pointy toe - I would go with what I call a "severe" pointy toe like this one http://www.zappos.com/rsvp-jade-black-patent rather than a moderate pointy toe like this http://www.zappos.com/gabriella-roch...tural-snake-pu That moderate pointy toe is too wishy-washy to look formal and looks more office instead. Conservative office at that.

The good news is THANK YOU KATE MIDDLETON for bringing back hosiery. Black hose are back in vogue - hilariously renamed "transparent tights" or similar nonsense, depending on where you shop. You could easily wear a black heel with black hose and be good to go, if you're not comfortable with bare legs and nude heels.

Hope that helps! What purse and jewelry are you wearing?
Thank you. This is so informative! I never thought about pointy/rounded toed pumps in a formal/office context.

Since you're ordering online, I have a quick word of warning. Order early, especially if you decide to go with with a nude platform pump. Platform pumps are great, because they can give you the extra height without being super uncomfortable. But, I've noticed that with the nude ones, any design flaws are super obvious, and that makes the shoes look extra cheap. You can't always tell in photos online though! (Can you tell I had a traumatic online nude heel buying experience?!)

I'm not sure I can wear hosiery with this dress. I think it's too clingy, even with a slip.

The party is in Boston but almost no one wears tights, hose, etc. Everyone is bare legged (I will be getting a spray tan since I'm so pasty by December). Ok, I may order some nude pumps and some more sparkly heels and see which goes best once things are hemmed up, etc. I think I would wear silver sparkly heels again and I need to find nude pumps below $50 so I may end up going with those.

The hem will make it perfect! It looks lovely on you! I would suggest a metallic or patent black shoe if it is rather formal...maybe a silver or pewter color?

Completely agree with everything Lily said, as usual.

Ok, here is the hemmed dress and 2 shoe options. One sparkly, the other nude. While I feel the nude might be more useful in other contexts, I like the sparkly better.

                  What say the mavens?

Love both of those shoes and both look pretty. I would wear the sparkly for the party. The nude ones are so pretty too though!

The nude shoes really do make the leg look longer!

As petite as you are, I think the rounded toe of the sparkly toe isn't the best choice, even though I love the sparkle. The pointed toe of the nude helps elongate your leg.

I agree with Kris. I think the nude is much more flattering.

The nude it is. It's more practical anyway. I'm not going to wear the other very often whereas the nude is allegedly good for other things (like what? LSW help!)
