Is anyone going to get an iphone 5? The camera is supposed to be good. I am thinking of getting one as I still have the iphone 3. My current phone serves me well except the battery life is nill and the camera is terrible. My DSL camera is broken and I lost the charger to my point-and-shoot camera so it kind of makes sense rather than buying another camera. Plus, my daughter is begging for an ipod touch. I could give her this one rather than risk her breaking a new ipod touch. Still, spending money on purchases like this make me cringe.

We're doing it. We have the 4 - got it right before they released the 4S or whatever. We're also switching carriers. AT&T can suck it. we figure if we're going to buy a new phone, may as well buy a NEW phone...

I'm most excited to have Siri, although all the other new features are fun, too. DD has one of those iPod holders, so my old phone will be exclusively running Fisher-Price for a while!

We will get them but not until our contracts are up in March and by then, who knows, there will probably be another one! Hah!

I'm mad that if I upgrade my 4 to a 5 w/Verizon, we'll lose our unlimited data plan. Hmmmph.

Even if you keep the same plan? I'm stuck with AT&T forever because of unlimited data, but I can get a new phone whenever and not lose it. DH actually switched to Verizon and I kept AT&T for that reason (although it comes in handy places where it's hard to find a signal - one of us always has one).

We already lost ours with AT&T, but I feel your pain. The Verizon rep I talked to said that data is the real place companies make their money. We don't use a ton of data (for how much we use our phones) because both DH and I are on wifi most of the time (him at the hospital, me at home). I will have to look at some of our previous bills to see what data plan we will switch to. Also, Verizon is going to be more expensive than AT&T for us...but worth it to get reception in your house.

If you sign a new two-year contract, you have to use whatever contracts they have available (if that makes sense). You can obviously buy the phone out-of-pocket and not sign a new agreement, but that's even more $$...

We actually left AT&T for a bit 4th year because of reception issues - DH needed to be alike to respond to residency interview offers ASAP. By the time we switched back, bye-bye unlimited data

scrub-jay have you looked at how much you really use? I went into Verizon a few weeks ago to get a phone for our trip and they tried to switch me so I came home and looked and looked at how much we have used over the last several months and sure enough switching away from an unlimited plan ends up saving us money and we have never come anywhere close to using the data that the new plan covers.

Look into any corporate discounts you may be eligible for. Our Verizon discounts are more substantial than AT&T.

I'm dropping hints like a madwoman hoping the BF will order it for my bday. He's a bit slow, so I should probably just order it myself.

I'm with Scrub Jay. Our data usage is right on the border of costing us a lot more and DH is a data hog. No real access to wifi during the day for either of us too.

Frankly I'm not impressed with the new iPhone anyway. The only thing it would really buy me is the ability to use FaceTime and talk to N that way during the day. And I'm sure thinly reason that is an option now is because they can charge you for the data usage.

Frankly Apple and Verizon can get bent until I absolutely need to upgrade. I'm happy with my 4 for now. I suspect more people will not be upgrading for similar reasons and I hope Apple and the carriers feel it.

So should I get an iphone 4 instead? We have unlimited data at this time.

See, I've noticed that my 4 is getting really slow, and I can't wait to upgrade. It's not that it's running out of memory (I have the 32GB, and am only using 7 GB). However, it's from that first batch of 4s with the "defective" antennae, so maybe that's why.

We have unlimited data and it would cost us a shit ton of money NOT to have unlimited data. DH asked yesterday if we could get new phones. Slow your roll. Might want to get at least one full pay check before we spend a few hundred bucks on phones there, Speed Racer.

Verizon no longer has unlimited plans so if you get any kind of new phone, regardless of the phone, they will switch you to one of their new plans. For us it made sense because I'm the data hog but I do almost all of mine on WiFi.
