I like the pink gown! The thing about Rent the Runway is if you are like me you have no idea what is going to look good until you try it, and is t it too late at that point? Or do they let you return it?

I'm a sucker for classic stuff which is why I think the first one is okay. I imagined you with a Breakfast at Tiffany's look

Yeah, you're probably right about rent the runway. I really have no idea how things will look. I'm trying to upload a picture because I thought maybe it doesn't look as old when it's on a not old person...but who knows. I also have strapless blue flowy dress from Express that I wore to a wedding this summer but I'm not sure if it's formal enough. It looks a little beachy to me.

Ugh. I don't even want to go to this. It was so fun to dress up back when I used to look good in everything. Now I just get depressed when I'm trying things on and end up buying whichever dress most resembles a trashbag.

Does the dress have to be black? I'll bet that shade of pink is lovely with your complexion. What part of your body do you feel best about? Maybe your colarbone, your back? You are such a pretty girl. I'm sure lots of things will be beautiful on you.

It definitely doesn't have to be black. I wish I could find a lighter color in something that isn't really fitted. I have a hard time finding anything in between prom dress and mother of the bride. Maybe I can lose 10 lbs before the event and wear the same dress I word 2 years ago.

How about something like this? The cut is very forgiving and if the slit is too high, you can have it sewn up a bit.

Check out TheOutnet.com or ShopItToMe -- The Outnet has a Halston Heritage gown similar to the pink one. I have to say, I don't think the black is so bad and I'd love to see a picture of it in action. If the OP has already bought it, I'd just get some statement jewelry and towering heels and call it a day. Of course, I'm kind of an "evening gown" hater anyway, so I think basic black is the way to go. Sparkles and satin and one-shouldered dresses look "older" to me than a more basic dress with good accessories. Of course, one day when I need to buy a long gown for something like this I'm sure I'll be back here asking for your advice!

Eh I kinda of suck with fashion stuff though. My wardrobe is very boring. Not a lot of patterns or bright colors

usually a 8 for dresses. I would call myself pear shaped...however, since I'm still nursing my top half isn't exactly small. I think empire wastes are good to hide my gigantic hips, but that is about all I know! lol!

I think when we're done with training, maybe we will live in a shack and I'll use the extra money to hire a stylist. I sure would love to be well dressed!

for DH's foundation dinner, and it's beautiful in person, as well as very forgiving. I really had a hard time finding anything under $200 this year, and was very disappointed about it. I had shoes, so I guess I save there, right???? (this is me justifying it all)

I think it's the necklines that are making these look "older". At least to me! (I'm another fashion idiot though - so who know what I know.) Of the two, I'd prefer the first with some cool retro jewelry to make it a little more mod. I can also see the whole Audrey Hepburn thing -- but you'd have to know what you are doing to pull it off. This second one seems very plain; I suppose you can take it any way you want to with accessories, though.

For me, I think I'd be going with which ever I decided made me more comfortable. If you feel awkward and don't like what you are wearing, you will have a terrible time. Any one will look better with a happy, confident lady inside it than a more "fashion forward" dress with a miserable, uncomfortable lady in it.
