  • City car

We are gonna get a city car for me. Does anyone have a sub-compact car like a Honda Fit or Toyota Yaris? I know DCJenn has the latter. We test drove a Toyota Prius C, and it was great, but too expensive for what I'm looking for (too many bells and whistles)--a car that I won't worry about too much, since it'll be parked on a busy city street.

The scions we tried out are too small for dh, as in at 6'3", there is no floor room for the rear seats. The driver's seat touches the rear seat behind it.

    Thanks!

We've had surprisingly good luck with Kia. Maybe a Rio? DH loves his Forte and it's really small, but comfy.

Do you live somewhere with snow? I love my Subaru Impreza hatchback. Base model was under $20k.

I've heard great things about the Honda Fit, especially from tall men. We have a Toyota Echo, which we love for that purpose, I think that was the precursor to the Yaris. Good luck!

Would you buy something used? You could then find a Prius in your price range.

Oh yeah, I have a 6'2" friend who got a Fit. He seemed to really like it.

My husband is 6'2" and drives a Yaris. The kids/carseats fit in the back seat. It's a good little car--I think it would work well for what you're describing.

My dad's 6'2" and has a Fit as well. He likes it, and I've sat in the back behind him before.

I should add that our kids are forward-facing--we never tried an infant seat in the Yaris.

I have a Rio and I love it. I kinda wish I had gotten the 5 door hatchback, but other than that, it handles fairly well in the snow, the only issues I had were covered under warranty and have been resolved fully. A Britax Roundabout fits well in it both rearward and forward facing. My dad, who is 6'3" has driven it without issue. I like that it is lower cost, fuel efficient and had a great factory warranty.

How about a vw rabbit/golf? They are great at manuevering in small places and nippy. You can get the two or four door.

                            Thank you for your recs.
We tried out the Fit, and it was so roomy. We were surprised. Dh was turned off by it at first, because it's such a mom car. It's for me though, not him! Still, we need for him to be able to fit into it without him having to contort himself. We need roomy back seats, in case we ever have a second baby.

My mil has a VW Golf and it has been in the shop more often than not. I want a reliable car and nothing fancy--doesn't need to have GPS or anything that might attract prowlers.

Holy shit, that Kia warranty is awesome. I've NEVER had a problem with them not covering something. Even a broken power window motor and those puppies are expensive and usually not covered.

DH is 6'3" and his Forte has tons of room for him. We can all 5 ride in it comfortably (if he'd clean the damn thing out), but it's small and sporty looking. Definitely affordable, too.

We've had crazy good luck with Kia and will definitely buy another when the time comes. Well, if we can figure out where the nearest dealership is located.
