  • Former dancers and ballet moms -- tutu help

So, M wants a tutu for Christmas. Just a rehearsal one (not a $3000 costume). I found a few online and will have to order soon (or have the studio director order for me from the costume company). Out of the ones I found, are any better than the others? They are all between $50-65.

http://www.discountdance.com/dancewe...duct_4869.html - I think this one requires some tacking to get it to stay down. Or at least that's what the pic looks like.

She just wants a black one (even though purple or red would be so pretty on her) because it is the most versatile.

No advice but please make her one like you did for N out of tulle and pretend that is it before you give her the real one. I can bring Ns back for a visit if you don't want to make one...is that evil?

I'm partial to the Sansha because I used to wear their shoes...the Perform one says it's available in white only? Do you know how many layers the Bloch has?

I can't tell but it looks prettier than the Sansha one from Discount Dance. The Sansha at All About Dance is pretty too. I'll check the catalog at the studio to see if it says how many layers the Bloch has. M wears Sansha flat shoes.

Which one does her studio recommend?

They don't have a recommendation. The director isn't a huge fan of the one from Discount Dance because you have to do additional work to keep it flat, but other than that there is no preference. They will order from the costume books for us though so that is helpful (they have good prices on fancy crap). One day maybe I will pay our tutu lady to make a pancake tutu costume, but I don't see myself forking over $3K for an 8th grader's custom-made costume. The tiara would be another $400.

Oh wow. My ballet school had tutus for us to rehearse with, from what I remember. Other than that, we had a strict dress code. Each level had its own color.

She can't wear it to class, but it would be nice to have when she learns a variation to practice it in a tutu. She goes to weekly private lessons with the director.

Our studio does the color-coding by level too! Right down to a specific leotard (though Ballet VI and up are a little more flexible -- they can get away with any black leo, Pre-Professional levels can wear colors on Saturdays).

So, Curtain Call also has a professional tulle tutu for $69.99. Should I just get that instead of a rehearsal tutu?

Ok. I think I'll get E one too. It's on her Christmas list as a want. M wants black. I kind of want pink for E and red or lilac for M.
