  • Holiday gift help - MIL

What do you get for someone who can buy whatever they want, gives you money whenever they think you need it, and is in the process of purging all the clutter from their house???

Thankfully, they're not coming until after Christmas.

What about a class for something she's into? Painting, pottery, cooking, beer/wine making, quilting, etc...

I've done this. I have this exact problem with my step-mother every year. She has ridiculously expensive taste and buys everything herself so I figured a donation is good. This year, I'm making a gift to the hospital DH worked at while in Kenya in her name.

A blanket/quilt was about the only thing I could come up with. They don't go out to eat, her current hobby is getting their house updated, and she's not really a spa kind of person. Gah! Is there something that I can have A "make" that would be practical? She's very religious, but she just got me a perpetual Mass card for my birthday, so I can't do that.

A puppy is out - they're expensive, it would have to be low allergen, she's never raised a puppy before, she just replaced all her downstairs carpeting with ultra-pale beige, and she won't even let our house-broken dog come visit :/ Plus, they travel about once a month/every-other month to see us or other relatives.

We got my FIL a case with various hot sauces, so it doesn't need to be expensive.

                  I'll have to ask DH about a donation - I think he'll view it as a cop-out :/
